  • Full-Time: England 4 (Gerrard, Lambert, Welbeck 2) Moldova 0
    • Steven Gerrard gives England the lead in the 12th minute, Rickie Lambert adds a second after 28 minutes
    • Danny Welbeck adds a third on the stroke of half-time, and doubles his tally shortly after the break
    • Welbeck picks up a first-half yellow card that rules him out of next week's encounter with Ukraine
    9/6/2013 2:05:05 PM
  • 43 mins: Gerrard finds Cole out on the left with a nice cross-field pass, and he supports the Chelsea man until Armas just about forces a goal kick of the goalscorer. Can England score another just before half-time?
    9/6/2013 7:43:44 PM
  • 44 mins: Hart is finally called into action when he charges out to claim a high ball. Lampard looks to have found Welbeck behind the defence, but it's given offside as Welbeck shoots. Astonishgly, Welbeck is booked by referee Ivan Kruzliak for kicking the ball away. Needless, that card.
    9/6/2013 7:45:31 PM
  • 45 mins: GOAL FOR ENGLAND!!
    9/6/2013 7:45:58 PM
  • 45 mins: Lambert lifts a delightful lob over the defence for Welbeck to chase onto, and he beats Namasco to the ball, taking it past the stranded keeper before tapping home to score England's third. That's half-time as well, and it's a good half for the hosts.
    9/6/2013 7:47:34 PM
  • Well, not much that we didn't expect. England look more than comfortable, Moldova haven't had a shot on target, let alone look threatening at all. The only downside of that half for Roy Hodgson is the yellow card picked up by Welbeck has ruled him out of Tuesday's match against Ukraine, and with Hodgson's striker options already depleted, there now seems even more emphasis on Daniel Sturridge to be fit for the match in Kiev.

  • Danny Welbeck takes the ball around Stanislav Namasco to score England's third

    9/6/2013 7:55:48 PM
  • Right then, I've had my half-time samosa's (very enjoyable, by the way) and the teams are back out. One change for England, as Leighton Baines is on for Ashley Cole, who would've missed the trip to Ukraine had he picked up a yellow card.
    9/6/2013 8:01:52 PM
  • 46 mins: England start the second half in control as they were in the first. Walcott looks to find Welbeck from the right but it's out for a throw. Wilshere then attempts to set his Arsenal team-mate away but it's cleared (just) by Golovatenco, as the winger goes tumbling to the floor in the process.

    9/6/2013 8:04:11 PM
  • 48 mins: Moldova are really struggling to hold onto the ball, and you have to think it's a case of how many for England. A sloppy pass from Lampard just wakes them up though.
    9/6/2013 8:05:42 PM
  • 49 mins: Walcott nearly finds Lambert on the edge of the area, but the move breaks down as the striker readjusts his body to shoot. GOAL FOR ENGLAND!!!
    9/6/2013 8:06:50 PM
  • 50 mins: Lambert picks the ball up on the left wing after a lovely pass from Gerrard, and he knocks the ball into the box for Welbeck, who dinks the ball over the onrushing Namasco to add his second and England's fourth.
    9/6/2013 8:08:04 PM
  • 52 mins: Welcome to the game, Mr Baines. Wilshere passes across the edge of the box to Lampard, who lets the ball roll across to Baines. His first-time smash is straight at Namasco, but he saves well to push it out for a corner. From it, the ball falls to Cahill, but he can't get his shot away on the turn.
    9/6/2013 8:09:54 PM
  • 54 mins: Gerrard gives away possession in midfielder, and Moldova look to try and force a gap in the defence, but when Lampard wins the ball back he's quickly chopped down. Kruzliak plays the advantage and England are on the attack again.
    9/6/2013 8:11:28 PM
  • 55 mins: Lampard sells Walker short just outside the England area, and Dedov works into the box, trying to find a way to cross it in to the waiting Sidorenco. His ball is deflected up though and it's easy for Hart to claim.
    9/6/2013 8:12:58 PM
  • 57 mins: Alexandru Suvorov is coming on for Simion Bulgaru, as Moldova look to find any way back into the match.
    9/6/2013 8:14:17 PM
  • Michael Carrick doesn't look too impressed on the bench

    9/6/2013 8:15:23 PM
  • 59 mins: Jack Wilshere goes off to a good applause, but there's an even bigger one as Ross Barkley comes on for his international debut.
    9/6/2013 8:16:32 PM
  • 61 mins: Again, England just slowing things down, but with the win seemingly in the bag (early I know) let's hope they push on for more goals.
    9/6/2013 8:18:42 PM
  • 62 mins: Lampard finds Walker in space down the right, but he wastes possession and the linesman gives a throw-in to Moldova, much to the frustration of the Spurs defender. England win a free-kick though and Gerrard will cross it from the right. Welbeck gets up and onto it with a towering header, but it's just over. He'll have to wait for his hat-trick...
    9/6/2013 8:21:10 PM
  • 65 mins: Cahill rushes back to diffuse a through ball for Sidorenco, but he's flagged offside. That doesn't stop him from rolling around on the floor in apparent agony, but he's quickly back on his feet. Funny that...
    9/6/2013 8:22:54 PM
  • 67 mins: This time Cahill does collect Sidorenco, as he chops him down around half-way. Nothing reckless though, and play continues with a free-kick.
    9/6/2013 8:24:26 PM
  • 68 mins: Chance for Welbeck's hat-trick...but as he drifts across goal his shot is deflected for a corner. Gerrard to swing it in, and Namasco comes flapping out to clear nothing but air. England can't take advantage though and it's cleared.
    9/6/2013 8:26:07 PM
  • 70 mins: Rickie Lambert departs to a standing ovation, and it's been another successful outing for the Saints forward. If he keeps this up, he'll be on that plane to Brazil in no time, right? He's replaced by James Milner.
    9/6/2013 8:27:33 PM
  • I hear they're good at drinking...

    9/6/2013 8:28:02 PM
  • 72 mins: Walcott slides in on Golovatenco, but the free-kick is kicked straight to Hart in the England goal. An absolute waste. England looking to build another chance, with Welbeck now shifted as the lone striker with Walcott, Milner and Lampard supporting.
    9/6/2013 8:29:29 PM
  • 74 mins: Corner for England, and it's Milner to deliver, send in an in-swinger into the goal mouth. but the referee has seen some pushing and gives a free-kick to Moldova.
    9/6/2013 8:30:47 PM
  • 75 mins: Ross Barkley nearly has a debut goal to remember, after Gerrard sends a defence-splitting ball through the centre of the pitch. The Everton youngster skips to his right, and unleashes a fierce shot that just goes wide of the left-hand post. That would've been some goal. The attendance is read out and there's only 61,607 here tonight. Not a bad turn out but it means the stadium is only two-thirds full.
    9/6/2013 8:33:40 PM
  • 77 mins: Namasco nearly drops one into the net, but he just regathers the ball in time. Dedov is away for Moldova...but Walker does enough to put him off and the chance is gone.
    9/6/2013 8:34:35 PM
  • 79 mins: Free-kick for England, and they take it quickly, with Milner charging down the left. it's briefly cleared, but Walker finds space on the right to cross towards Welbeck. It's cleared, but only as far as Lampard, who goes straight for goal, and Namasco knocks it out for a corner with his legs.
    9/6/2013 8:36:08 PM
  • 80 mins: Boos ring out around Wembley as the ball is worked back to Hart, with an expectant crowd now urging players to shoot from all over the field. Welbeck still looks as hungry as he was at kick-off, and who can blame him, with the chance of an international hat-trick ahead of him. He has just 10 minutes though if he wants it.
    9/6/2013 8:37:48 PM
  • 81 mins: And it's an immediate chance for Welbeck, as Gerrard's cross falls to him in the area, but his glancing header goes wide. Milner sends in a cross from the left, and Welbeck leaves it for Walcott who comes steaming in from the right, but he's just too late and it's cleared.
    9/6/2013 8:39:04 PM
  • 83 mins: Moldova prepare their final substitution, as Alexsadr Pascenco prepares to come on, Gerrard is chopped down by Onica, and it'll be Serghei Georghiev who'll make way for Pascenco.
    9/6/2013 8:41:16 PM
  • 86 mins: Gerrard goes searching for Welbeck on the right, and he feeds Walker who drives into the box. Gerrard and Welbeck exchange passes, and the ball drops kindly to Walker, whose outside of the boot shot just goes over the bar.
    9/6/2013 8:43:00 PM
  • 87 mins: Steven Gerrard has been named as tonight's man of the match, although there could also have been claims for Danny Welbeck to take the award. Both have looked lively, and Welbeck will be missed in Kiev significantly.
    9/6/2013 8:44:07 PM
  • 89 mins: We have our first corner for Moldova! Suvorov sends it in, and it eventually drops to Armas, who blazes over the bar. Credit to them though, the Moldovan's are still trying to find a goal.
    9/6/2013 8:46:28 PM
  • 90 mins: Two minutes of added time, and the crowd is already thinning. Barkley has the chance to shoot, but instead he tries to feed Welbeck. Walker is fouled on the right of the box, and England will have one more chance to score...
    9/6/2013 8:47:54 PM
  • 90+2 mins: Gerrard floats the ball in, and no-one picks up Milner at the back post, who has a simple tap in to score. But somehow, and I emphasis somehow, he hits it into the ground and over the bar. And that's it. England run out comfortable winners 4-0.
    9/6/2013 8:49:32 PM
  • An easy night's work for Roy Hodgson's side then, as England run out deserved 4-0 winners. The one bad point will be Welbeck's suspension that rules him out of Tuesday's clash with Ukraine.
    9/6/2013 8:52:38 PM
  • Hodgson will now be eager to have Daniel Sturridge available for the trip to Kiev, with Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll already injured and questions over Jermaine Defoe's match fitness, and now Welbeck's suspension. There was another pleasing display from Rickie Lambert though, and he could well be called on to lead the line on Tuesday. Steven Gerrard looked at his threatening best, and Frank Lampard did his chances of winning his 100th no harm at all.
    9/6/2013 8:54:51 PM
  • Some group news now, and it'll make Hodgson's night even better. Montenegro have been held to a 1-1 draw in Poland, meaning England now lead the group on goal difference alongside Montenegro and Ukraine, who destroyed San Marino 9-0 in Kiev.
    9/6/2013 8:56:10 PM
  • That's all from me, and it's been another comprehensive victory for the Three Lions. Thanks for joining me, and don't forget to join us on Tuesday for the match in Kiev. See you then!
