    7/4/2012 2:21:46 PM
  • Andy Murray 1-1 David Ferrer*
Some long baseline rallies and in these early stages Ferrer looks to be coming out on top. The Spaniard wins two break points with the score at 40-15. Murray aces to save the first one and then Ferrer puts a winnable forehand out wide. Murray wins the next two from deuce and holds serve.
    7/4/2012 2:28:18 PM
  • Andy Murray* 1-2 David Ferrer
Ferrer unsuccessfully challenges the first point to put Murray 15-0 up before firing widely with a forehand to make it 30-0 to the Scot. The Spaniard wins the next but then fires into the net. Two break points to Murray but, like his opponent in the last match, he can't take either of them. A fine 23 stroke rally ends with Ferrer forcing Murray to hit long and the Scot can't return the next serve. Quite a contest this and we're only three games in.
    7/4/2012 2:33:17 PM
  • Andy Murray 1-3 David Ferrer*
With the score at 30-15 to Murray, the Scot has a wonderful chance to smash it to go two points clear. He hits it at Ferrer who returns it, Murray does well to volley it back but it's then simple for his opponent to make it 30-30. Ferrer then wins a break point and this time he takes it as Murray rifles a forhand into the net. The first break of the match.
    7/4/2012 2:39:30 PM
  • Andy Murray* 1-4 David Ferrer
Another long rally opens the fifth game before Ferrer hits into the net. The Spaniard then fights back to 40-30 before one hell of a point. A drop shot from Ferrer looks to have the better of Murray but somehow he makes it to lift it over his opponent. It touches the baseline and Murray goes on to make it deuce. Ferrer sees the game out though to take a 4-1 lead in the first set.
    7/4/2012 2:44:45 PM
  • Andy Murray 2-4 David Ferrer*
Fantastic first point. Murray returns the ball at an acute angle yet somehow Ferrer gets there to put it into the back corner and go 15-0 up. Murray then wins the next four points. Some incredible shots being played here.

  • Andy Murray 3-5 David Ferrer*
Ferrer goes for a big service return on the first point but it's out and he can't return the next one either. Murray goes 40-15 up after pushing Ferrer this way and that around the court. From 40-30 Murray holds serve as Ferrer hits it long.
    7/4/2012 2:58:07 PM
  • Andy Murray* 4-5 David Ferrer
Murray takes the first point but not the next as a swift strike from Ferrer has the Scot scrambling. Murray then goes 30-15 up after some fine shot selections but Ferrer reels him back in with an ace to make it 30-30. Wow - what a shot from Ferrer as he arrows it over the net from left to right to make it set point. He can't take it though, hitting it long to make it deuce. Murray then wins a break point after Ferrer fails in his attempt to strike it down the line after a lob. He can't take his chance either. But he can on his second chance. With Ferrer tearing into the net, Murray somehow finds an angle to hit it across him and bring things back on serve. Brilliant tennis.
    7/4/2012 3:05:39 PM
  • Andy Murray 5-5 David Ferrer*
A scrappier game sees Murray go 30-15 up before a rally ends with Ferrer hitting into the net. Wayward from Murray but at 40-30 he wins the game to bring things level.

Unforced errors from both players make it 5-4 before a big serve from Murray brings it level at 5-5. Needlessly into the net from Murray and then again with Ferrer hitting the baseline with a fine shot. First set to Ferrer.
    7/4/2012 3:27:51 PM
  • Ahead of the match The Independent's Wimbledon correspondent Nick Bollettieri had this to say: "A word of advice from a guy who has been around the block a few times: if you're going to watch Andy Murray against David Ferrer this afternoon, pack some extra sandwiches and make damn sure you go to the rest room before the match. This is going to go some." That first set would suggest so. Second set now underway...
    7/4/2012 3:30:45 PM
  • Andy Murray 6-7 1-0 David Ferrer*
30-30 in the first match of the second set but Murray fires down an ace before Ferrer sends the next one long. Good start to the second for Murray.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in attendance today and in the second game of this second set they see Ferrer win a few points in commanding style before Murray fights back from 40-15 to bring it to deuce. The Scot wins the next with a great cross court backhand but he can't take advantage of the break point. Ferrer then closes it out. Such a closely fought contest here - nothing between the pair.

Murray takes the first point but Ferrer is then back on top at 30-15 with Murray looking frustrated with himself. Doesn't he always though? The Spaniard wins the next point and Murray hits into the net as Ferrer holds.
    7/4/2012 3:52:50 PM
  • Andy Murray 6-7 4-3 David Ferrer*
First point Ferrer and the Spaniard wins the next with a fine forehand to make it 30-0. With Ferrer looking the more sprightly right now, Murray needs to pull it together. He wins the next point but then strikes into the net to give his opponent two break points. Ferrer fails to take his first opportunity as Murray bosses the point. The Scot then hammers down an ace. Good response. But Murray then hits a relatively straightforward overhead smash into the net and he has the crowd on tenterhooks once more. A great rally follows with Ferrer returning from every possible position on the court but the Spaniard finally comes unstuck. Two strong serves from Murray follow and the home hope holds. Just.
    7/4/2012 4:00:56 PM
  • Andy Murray* 6-7 4-4 David Ferrer
30-30 but Murray lets himself down once more by needlessly pushing it into the net. The next point is a cracker as Murray somehow stays in the point by lobbing it over Ferrer but the Spaniard absolutely whacks it to engineer a simple end to that game.

Murray then hits what looks like a great forehand which is called in, but Ferrer successfully challenges to earn a break point. Good response from Murray though to make it deuce. 7/4/2012 4:19:09 PM
  • Andy Murray 6-7 6-5 David Ferrer*
Some fantastically entertaining tennis as Murray holds his serve. It must be said that the athleticism from Ferrer has been exceptional. So many points have looked over before the Spaniard has somehow got himself on the end of it.

  • Andy Murray 6-7 7-6 6-4 7-6 David Ferrer
So Murray is through to the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the fourth time in his career. And the even better news is that rather than Rafael Nadal waiting to face him, it will be Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Still no easy task, but much more winnable I think you'll agree.
