Welcome to The Independent's coverage of this second round clash between Andy Murray and Yen-Hsun Lu.

  • Andy Murray beats Yen-Hsun Lu 6-3, 6-3, 6-5

    • Murray is through to the third round after claiming straight sets victory over Lu of Taiwan
    • The Brit takes the first and second set with very little coming from Lu in defence, before rounding out the win in the third set
    • Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Victoria Azarenka, Steve Darcis and Marin Cilic all withdraw through injury
    6/26/2013 4:16:28 PM
  • Another slip, this time from Maria Sharapova, who is receiving medical attention over on Court Two

    6/26/2013 4:23:56 PM
  • *Murray v Lu: 6-3, 6-3, 2-1
Murray makes a slight error with his shot placement that allows Lu to hit a winner, but Murray replies with two aces to close out the game. Murray is remaining near the baseline, whereas Lu is looking to come in close.

  • Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 2-2
A frustrated cry from Murray as he mis-hits the ball low into the net, and he does exactly the same with the next show, just taking his eye off the ball here. Lu then has trouble again with his serve, taking two bites at the cherry, but another drop-shot catches Murray too deep. Murray responds with another beautiful lob, before producing a drop-shot volley of his own. Murray hits his final return long though and Lu levels the set.

  • *Murray v Lu: 6-3, 6-3, 3-2
Lu fails with another early challenge when Murray hit a forehand to the right edge of the court. He then comes to the net again - I shouldn't have mentioned it - but Lu doesn't get the ball over the net. Murray then hits a serve out wide that Lu can't return, but Murray is left stuck standing on the next point when Lu finally responds with a classy shot along the right tram-line. Murray replies with an ace and a 'have that' stare.
    6/26/2013 4:32:39 PM
  • Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 3-3
Murray deceives Lu and hits a forehand down the line, before Lu gets the Brit running as a last-gasp lob lands out, much to his annoyance. Lu then forces Murray back, with another miss -this time long - coming from the British number 1. Another unforced error - how many? - from Lu allows Murray back in, an Lu's attempt at lobbing the master of the shot drops long. Break point for Murray, but Lu gets away with it after he clips the net. A moment of lob-ping-pong ensues, with Murray doing his best to chip over Lu, but he fails, much to the crowd's humour. Lu attempts another drop-shot on third-deuce, but Murray reads it and hits a winner past him, and we are then treated to another lob-ping-pong moment (can I get away with that phrase) which Lu wins for a fourth deuce.

Murray returns to earn his 3rd break point, but his next one goes straight into the net for yet another deuce. An impressive Lu serve forces Murray to miss, but he hits a big two-handed shot past Lu to level. After hitting a return long to hand Lu advantage, Murray volleys to bring up the sixth deuce! Lu finally takes the game, after nearly 11 minutes, with a perfect drop-shot. Resilient stuff from both men.

  • BREAKING NEWS: Maria Sharapova, the third seed, has been knocked out in straight sets by qualifier Michelle Larcher De Brito! The news adds to this Whacky Wimbledon Wednesday -better? - and although Sharapova was being treated for an injury, the shocks continue on day 3.
    6/26/2013 4:47:37 PM
  • *Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 4-3
Murray races to a 30-0 lead, but some sloppy play allows Lu to get back into the game. However at 40-30, Lu hits a return long and gives Murray the game. Not long to go for what seems a comfortable win here.
    6/26/2013 4:49:45 PM
  • Maria Sharapova receiving treatment after becoming the latest to be knocked-oout following a slip on the grass courts, with the Russian heard muttering: "These courts are dangerous..."

    6/26/2013 4:51:03 PM
  • Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 4-4
Lu fights back well and levels the set up at 4-4, with Murray being outhit in a couple of points. He looks far from worried though, but Lu is hanging on in there.
    6/26/2013 4:54:26 PM
  • *Murray v Lu: 6-3, 6-3, 5-4
Murray starts off with a lovely volley, followed by Lu hitting into the net with the Brit at the in close proximity. He responds by hitting a winner past the on-rushing Murray, but he wins the next point with a forehand shot that just finds the baseline. He see's the game out with an ace, and as they say, the fat lady is warming up her lungs, so-to-speak.
    6/26/2013 4:56:56 PM
  • Andy Murray taking a shorter view of things...

    6/26/2013 4:58:20 PM
  • Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 5-5
With Lu serving to stay in the game, he looks a little tense as he his serve goes low into the net. He get's to 30-0 , but unforced errors allow Murray back to 30-30, and yet another gives Murray match point despite a failed Lu challenge. With the end nigh, Murray returns Lu's serve into the net, and we'll go on a little bit longer as we have deuce. Murray challenges a long call, but the line-judge gets his call spot-on, and he mis-judges his shot when he comes to the net to allow Lu the game.
    6/26/2013 5:02:02 PM
  • *Murray v Lu: 6-3, 6-3, 6-5
Lu can't cope with Murray's serve, with his returns either falling short of wide. Murray hits another ace to see out the love-game, much in frustration of his failure to win the previous one. But again, Lu will serve to stay in the game and take the third set to a tiebreak.
    6/26/2013 5:04:12 PM
  • Talk about excitement...

    6/26/2013 5:05:30 PM
  • Murray v Lu*: 6-3, 6-3, 7-5
ANDY MURRAY THROUGH TO THE THIRD ROUND: Murray hits two commanding winners to race to 30-0 and the crowd feel the end coming. Lu fights back with a volley smash to 30-40, but Lu hits a backhand straight down the centre of the court, and crucially, long. Murray takes the match 6-3 6-3 7-5 to progress comfortably to the third round.
    6/26/2013 5:08:43 PM
  • Once he survived Lu's three break points early in the first set, the win never looked in doubt, with Murray barely breaking into a sweat as he eased to another victory. News has come through that he will play Tommy Robredo of Spain in the third round, with the No32 seed beating Nicolas Mahut in straight sets.
    6/26/2013 5:11:39 PM
  • Not quite the workout that Murray may have anticipated, but there will be a few sighs of relief that he has avoided any injuries following all the withdrawals, and Murray will know his path is made a little easier with Tsonga's withdrawal should he progress to the quarter-finals.
    6/26/2013 5:13:19 PM
  • That's it from me.
