    Arsenal's midfield for today...
    9/23/2015 5:48:07 PM

What do you make of our north London XI? Baffled by Bellerin? Dumbfounded by Dembele? Miffed by Monreal? Rattled by Ramsey? Vexed by Vertonghen? I can keep going...

Mauricio Pochettino on Son's role on the bench:

The supporters understand that Son arrived late, his game and physical condition need work. If we need him, he's ready to play. We trust in the squad.

More on an embattled Arsene Wenger above. Can he turn it round when it matters most?
    9/23/2015 6:09:00 PM
Everything's playing a strong team except you Arsene.

    9/23/2015 6:09:04 PM

Spurs fans have been getting into the spirit of the big derby tonight, recording a totally not best part of a decade too late cover of 'Rehab'. Is it cringe-worthy, as my colleague Sam Long claims above? Or is it not even worthy of your cringes?
    9/23/2015 6:23:04 PM
Arsene Wenger was asked whether he had always planned on a weakened team:

Yes, we have so many games. You rotate a little bit but for me these decisions are very similar. All the players have similar skills and quality.

    9/23/2015 6:28:42 PM

15 minutes until kick-off, here's a reminder of those lineups.

Tottenham starting XI: Vorm, Trippier, Fazio, Wimmer, Rose; Carroll, Dier; Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend; Kane.
Subs: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Winks, Alli, Clinton, Son.

Arsenal starting XI: Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Gibbs, Arteta, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Campbell, Giroud.
Subs: Macey, Bellerin, Monreal, Ozil, Iwobi, Alexis, Walcott.

    9/23/2015 6:32:29 PM
I asked Arsenal fans how they felt about a midfield of Arteta and Flamini. Not good was the answer. Not good at all. Though for what it's worth, I think they're better together than apart. Flamini can be the midfield terrier whilst Arteta conducts from deep.

    9/23/2015 6:39:28 PM
The teams are out, we're minutes away from kick-off
    9/23/2015 6:44:38 PM
Kick off: Arsenal get us underway at White Hart Lane.
    9/23/2015 6:46:34 PM
2 mins: Danny Rose just tried to recreate his spectacular derby winner from 2010. It smashed into the first man.
    9/23/2015 6:47:12 PM
3 mins: Joel Campbell (remember him) wins a free-kick on the right flank, level with the box. Mikel Arteta's delivery is behind the attackers and cleared with ease.
    9/23/2015 6:49:10 PM

7 mins: Harry Kane's first action of the match...he's caught offside.
    9/23/2015 6:52:58 PM
Credit where it's due, on both occasions Joel Campbell has got on the ball so far he has looked bright. Which has raised his notable Arsenal contributions count by 200 per cent.

    9/23/2015 6:55:57 PM

10 mins:  Olivier Giroud's first action of the match...he's caught offside... Three minutes later than Harry Kane. That's why he's North London No 1.
    9/23/2015 6:57:12 PM
13 mins: Ramsey unleashes a ball behind the Tottenham backline from Kieran Gibbs. The full-back clips a ball to the near post but Giroud schews his header backwards and Campbell can't turn in at short notice.
    9/23/2015 6:59:32 PM
15 mins: Good defending from Chambers there, keeping Harry Kane from heading at the back post. Eriksen lobbed a ball into the area but the Arsenal man was wise to it, flicking it behind for a corner from which nothing came.
    9/23/2015 7:00:50 PM
Elsewhere... Chelsea lead 1-0 Walsall through Ramires. And Southampton are 2-0 up against MK Dons already.
    9/23/2015 7:02:24 PM
18 mins: Tottenham are on top so far and Danny Rose is looking threatening. He picks up a long-ball with a volleyed cross on the byline and Gibbs is forced to head behind for a setpiece.
    9/23/2015 7:04:29 PM
Arsenal fans are as bullish as ever even as their side struggle against pretty ordinary opposition.

    9/23/2015 7:06:51 PM

    23 mins:
Giroud has the ball down on the left flank, in a position of no danger whatsoever. Fazio foolishly gives away a free-kick in a dangerous position, but Arteta's delivery doesn't even beat the first man. It's been that sort of game. Zero shots on target so far.
    9/23/2015 7:09:54 PM
GOAL (26 mins): Mathieu Flamini is on hand with a poacher's finish after Michel Vorm spilled a long-range Oxlade-Chamberlain drive.
    9/23/2015 7:12:24 PM
Sorry, let's just check that... Mathieu Flamini is on hand with a poacher's finish... Well I never
    9/23/2015 7:13:00 PM
31 mins: Danny Rose blows a good chance for Spurs after Arsenal pile too many men forward. There's space aplenty for him to run down on the left and he receives the ball on the edge of the area. A heavy second touch leaves him stretching as he shoots for goal, the effort doesn't even test Ospina from 12 yards out.
    9/23/2015 7:17:33 PM
32 mins: Danny Rose has Debuchy beaten again. The right-back has no idea where his opponent is as a high ball comes down and with one touch Rose is gone into the area. Ospina's quick reactions mean the full back can only hit an effort into the keeper's body.
    9/23/2015 7:18:58 PM
36 mins: Vorm is looking far from convincing under the high ball, he nervously punches a corner away from close to his own goal line, but luckily for him the punch has enough distance to keep Spurs safe.
    9/23/2015 7:22:41 PM

    Mathieu Flamini scores Arsenal's opener

    9/23/2015 7:23:01 PM
39 mins: Fazio's horrible half continues as he gives the ball straight to Oxlade-Chamberlain on the half way line. Running along the left the winger reaches the corner of the box, where he opens up his body to curl the ball into the far corner. It would have been quite the goal but the ball sails just wide.
    9/23/2015 7:25:47 PM
40 mins: It's been coming, Debuchy picks up a booking for diving in on Danny Rose. The Frenchman just can't keep up, he slides in as Rose moves the ball past him on the edge of the area. Eriksen's delivery from the free kick is poor and Arsenal survive.
    9/23/2015 7:26:45 PM
44 mins: A cross into the area is flicked on by Chambers but only into the path of Harry Kane. He takes a first touch on his chest, then a second, then a third, then the chance is gone. A confident Kane brings that down and hammers it in.
    9/23/2015 7:30:59 PM

CHELSEA UPDATE: Loic Remy makes it 2-0 to the visitors.
MANCHESTER UNITED UPDATE: Wayne Rooney scores! United lead 1-0.
    9/23/2015 7:32:11 PM
45 mins: Aaron Ramsey gives the ball away on the edge of the Spurs box and Eriksen bursts away like lightning. He's joined by Kane on the left, the ball runs into his path but he drags his effort beyond the far post.
    9/23/2015 7:33:03 PM
HT: Not the best of games so far, but not the worst. Arsenal's goal really opened up the game, forcing Spurs on to the front foot.
    9/23/2015 7:33:37 PM
Elsewhere James O'Connor has mishit a shot past Asmir Begovic to make it 2-1 at the Bescott.
    9/23/2015 7:38:41 PM
Danny Rose taking Mathieu Debuchy here:

We're back underway for the second half.
