The world’s best golfers descend on the beautiful Augusta National Park once again to do battle for the famous Green Jacket. World number one, Tiger Woods, may be out with a back injury but there’s no shortage of quality on show with last year’s winner Adam Scott, Northern Ireland’s star Rory McIlroy and Masters’ royalty Phil Mickelson among the men vying for victory.

Sit back, relax and enjoy a feast of golf at its very finest from one of the most spectacular settings in all of sport. We want to hear from you too. Hit the ‘Make a comment’ button below and we’ll post the best ones.

  • Reigning Green Jacket wearer, Adam Scott, plays his way out of the trees

  • READ ALL ABOUT IT: There may well be no Tiger knocking around but that doesn't mean this Masters will be any less special, our man Kevin Garside explains why HERE
    4/10/2014 5:58:50 PM
  • LEE WESTWOOD: They're all out there or already in the clubhouse. England's Westwood, begins his round, the final group of the day, along side USA duo Harris English and Russell Henley.
    4/10/2014 6:03:53 PM
  • THE PATRONS: All the players are out on the course or already with their feet up and there's plenty of action for the crowds to lap up around the course. Turn those phones off though! Never fail to love and admire the hush that comes over everyone prior to each tee shot and the explosion of noise after the crack of the driver! Great stuff!
    4/10/2014 6:07:08 PM

  • Our man Kevin Garside is over in Georgia and enjoying every second, ANT AND DEC!!!
    4/10/2014 6:09:43 PM
  • AT THE TOP: All change at the top then in this ever changing leader board. Adam Scott plays a pig of shot into the drink to double bogey the 12th giving Bill Haas an opening. The American duly accepts with birdies 13 and 14 to take the lead.
    4/10/2014 6:14:05 PM
  • IN THE CLUBHOUSE: Some big names back at the bar and some unhappy reading to report. Martin Kaymer (+3), Ian Poulter (+4) and Tom Watson (+6) are all quite a way off the top but still a long way to go.
    4/10/2014 6:20:03 PM
  • LUKE DONALD: Crisis over guys. Luke, who double bogeyed the first, claims back that mistake with back-to-back birdies on the next two holes. Nothing but highlights from 36-year-old so far.
    4/10/2014 6:25:36 PM

  • Brandt Snedeker has the Patrons' mouths wide open

    4/10/2014 6:30:27 PM
  • KJ CHOI: The man from Korea is always a hit with the crowd at Augusta and he's starting to get going now. Birdies on 13 and 15 take him to two under and well in contention.
    4/10/2014 6:33:42 PM
  • HERE WE GO: Day one is well and truly in the swing of it now. All the guys are out on the course and the place is alive with noise, excitement and, of course, some wonderful golf. Get done with your dinner asap and settle down to a evening of action that rivals anything sport as to offer.
    4/10/2014 6:37:16 PM

  • They'ra behind you! Our leader at the moment Bill Haas

    4/10/2014 6:43:46 PM
  • SECOND PLACE: There's a big group starting to gather behind Bill Haas and Jimmy Walker makes a superb four birdies in a row between holes 14 and 17 to card a score of 70. Really good golf from Walker and he'll have plenty of momentum going into tomorrow morning.
    4/10/2014 6:46:15 PM
  • THIRD PLACE*: Louis! Just as I type about how second place is becoming a bit crowded, Oosthuizen makes the place his own. Four birdies in his opening nine takes the spot behind Haas.
    4/10/2014 6:48:46 PM

  • A lot of love of this superb tournament
    4/10/2014 6:56:13 PM
  • JASON DUFNER: Dufner can't breath, ohhhh no! Jason arrives at the 13th with a bogey and double bogey already under his belt and he has gone into melt down mood. A NINE at the exit of Amen Corner may have ended his challenge already.
    4/10/2014 6:59:13 PM
  • LEADER CHANGE: Bill Haas makes a mistake at the 17th and slips back into the pack. Four men now sharing the lead.
    4/10/2014 7:02:55 PM
  • Luke Donald: Well I said he's dealing in nothing but highlights and it's more of the same. The Brit drops three shots over the fifth and sixth to slip back down the board.
    4/10/2014 7:06:28 PM
  • OTHER BIG NAMES: Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia are going steady at par so far in their rounds. Lee Westwood has drop a shot at the third to be one over and Ernie Els is also at that score after back-to-back bogeys to start out his round. Justin Rose hasn't made a good start to his campaign dropping three on his first three holes.
    4/10/2014 7:10:52 PM

  • The Independent's very own Kevin Garside coming to you live from Augusta people!!
    4/10/2014 7:12:18 PM

  • Bubba Watson tries to get out of the sand and...

    so does Phil Mickelson

    4/10/2014 7:16:17 PM
  • NEW OUT RIGHT LEADER: Bill Haas caps a memorable first day with a birdie at the last hole and takes the top spot in the clubhouse. He also becomes the first man to go round with a score under 70, carding a very impressive 68.
    4/10/2014 7:21:42 PM
  • IN THE CLUBHOUSE: So, plenty of names back in the shed now. Veteran Fred Couples (-1) always seems to start well at Augusta and today has been no difference. Rickie Fowler (-1) will go into the clubhouse in a good mood as well. Miguel Angel Jimenez had a one hell of an up and down round but clocks in at one under. Graeme McDowell and Steve Stricker are both at par after the first day.
    4/10/2014 7:25:33 PM
  • LATEST LEADERBOARD: -4 Haas (US) after 18, -3 Snedeker (US) 16, Scott (Aus) 14, Oosthuizen (SA) 9; -1 Fowler (US) 18, McIlroy (NI) 14, Gallacher (Sco) 11.
    4/10/2014 7:26:54 PM

  • Charl Schwartzel trying to remember how he won his Green Jacket

    4/10/2014 7:33:04 PM
  • BRANDT SNEDEKER: That's the end of a very entertaining round from Sned! Three bogeys down the back nine leave him with a score of 70 after a good start but very much in the mix.
    4/10/2014 7:34:59 PM

  • Nothing quite like the Masters
    4/10/2014 7:35:36 PM
  • RORY!: McIlroy is bubbling away just behind the main leaders. Birdies at 13 and 15 give him a score of two under with two to play.
    4/10/2014 7:37:31 PM
  • BEHIND THE HAAS: Its all going on behind the Haas! South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen trips up on the 12th and leaves Scott to have second all to his own.
    4/10/2014 7:41:34 PM
  •
Steve Stricker toyed with using the rake to get out of this bunker

    4/10/2014 7:43:47 PM
  • READ ALL ABOUT IT: Matthew Fitzpatrick and Garrick Porteous are two of Britain's amateurs at this year's Masters, read all about them HERE
    4/10/2014 7:46:12 PM

  • Forget the Rory updates, what happened to that cameraman??
    4/10/2014 7:53:06 PM

  • The beautiful Augusta and the brilliant Adam Scott

    4/10/2014 7:55:38 PM
  • ADAM SCOTT: With the sun baking the greens and making them faster and faster, Scott holds his nerve to sink par at the last and take a score of 69 back to the clubhouse. Very good start to his defence, could it be back-to-back wins?
    4/10/2014 7:57:29 PM
  • LEADERBOARD: The table is starting to take place with lots of players posting their first day scores. We've got Haas at the top, Scott second and then plenty just behind on two under. Still lots of quality players to post their opening totals, so hold on tight and don't go anywhere.
    4/10/2014 7:59:21 PM
  • AMATEUR WATCH: That's the end of Michael Fitzpatrick's first ever round on golf's most historic courses and it may well be the first of many. The US Amateur Champion cards a score of 76 and he can be very proud of his day's work.
    4/10/2014 8:03:03 PM
  • RORY!: Many people's favourite coming into today's action makes his way to the 18th, just two off the top.
    4/10/2014 8:04:04 PM
  • PHIL MICKELSON: Look away now if your money is on Phil! The three time winner has a moment of madness at the seventh to hit a triple bogey and send him plummeting down the leader board. It won't faze him too much though, he's been there, done it and seen it all before.
    4/10/2014 8:07:07 PM
  • LEADERBOARD: Remember click the link above to see all the latest scores from Augusta.

  • LATEST LEADERBOARD: -4 Haas (US); -3 Scott (Aus) 17; -2 Snedeker (US), McIlroy (NI) 17, Oosthuizen (SA) 12; -1 Fowler (US), Jimenez (Spa), Garcia (Spa) 8.
    4/10/2014 8:08:48 PM
  • RORY!: Well, Rory bogeys the last but not too much damage done. Goes into the house just three shots of the lead and can be well satisfied with his opening contribution.
    4/10/2014 8:10:33 PM

  • Isn't having two caddies cheating, Fred?

    4/10/2014 8:15:13 PM

  • Are you not watching guys??
