  • First up it's Tottenham v Southampton...
Southampton head for White Hart Lane today with the twin aims of overhauling Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a Europa League place and trying to persuade the club to extend the contract of their manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

  • Just under half an hour to go until kick off at White Hart Lane, so that makes it time for some team news...

Tottenham: Lloris; Naughton, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose; Lennon, Bentaleb, Chadli, Dembele, Eriksen; Soldado

Spurs make three changes to the team from last Sunday - Aaron Lennon, Nabil Bentaleb and Roberto Soldado coming in. Emmanuel Adebayor, has not managed to shake off an ankle problem and does not make the squad.

Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Cork, Ward-Prowse, S. Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert.

Two changes to the Saints side which beat Norwich easily last weekend - Jack Cork comes back from injury and Rickie Lambert also returns to the starting line-up.

  • Some terrible Spurs merchandise on sale outside White Hart Lane

  • Looks like there will be no repeat of Tim Sherwood's gilet throwing hijinks today:
"I'm going to go up top [directors' box] and have a look from there, to get a better view. You can't see the game properly from down there [in the dugout] and I'm getting involved in every little decision, which is possibly wrong."
    Tim Sherwood

  • Just over five minutes to go and I'm cautiously optimistic of a good game coming up, perhaps only because Tim Sherwood's Spurs usually tend to provide one - not necessarily on purpose...

  • Tottenham 0 Southampton 0: The players are out on the pitch, handshakes etc going on now. Kick off is imminent.

  • Eriksen celebrates scoring the equaliser

    3/23/2014 2:40:04 PM
  • Tottenham 2 Southampton 2: Well this is a very different game from the first half hour. Spurs very much in the ascendency at the moment as Chadli has a powerful shot from the right turned behind by Boruc. Which way will the game turn?

  • 3/23/2014 2:47:01 PM
  • Tottenham 2 Southampton 2: Booking for Lovren, who has looked shaky in the last few minutes. Free kick for Spurs leads to a corner...
    3/23/2014 2:50:01 PM
  • Tottenham 2 Southampton 2: Gaston Ramirez comes on for goal scorer Jay Rodriguez. Can he make the difference?
    3/23/2014 2:55:33 PM
  • Tottenham 2 Southampton 2: Eriksen has a chance for a hat trick when he collects a ball over the top but his shot is deflected behind for a corner. Southampton clear though.

  • GOAL! Aston Villa 1 Stoke 0 - Christian Benteke
A goal! Bertrand slips it to Delph on the left of the box and he cuts it back to Benteke who slams the ball into the back of the net. What a start!
    3/23/2014 4:05:57 PM
  • Aston Villa 1 Stoke 0: After that early strike things have settled down quite a bit. Stoke seeing more of the ball but not really able to make it tell... yet.
    3/23/2014 4:15:31 PM
  • Aston Villa 1 Stoke 0: Ooof, great effort from Odemwingie who is inches away from equalising. His shot is just deflected by Vlaar and inches over the bar.
    3/23/2014 4:21:48 PM
  • GOAL! Aston Villa 1 Stoke 1 - Peter Odemwingie
Peter Crouch heads down a long ball to Odemwingie and the striker slots it home to equalise. Game on!
    3/23/2014 4:23:17 PM
  • GOAL! Aston Villa 1 Stoke 2 - Peter Crouch
What a turnaround! It's similar to Villa's goal, Pieters cuts the ball back to Crouch from the left hand byline and the gangly striker opens up his body and sidefoots it past Guzan. Stoke lead!

  • Well that concludes a thrilling weekend of football which was jam-packed with goals. Even Stoke managed 4! I hope you can join us again soon for more live sport with The Independent.
