  • One man who could make the difference for Everton is their on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku...

The sight of Romelu Lukaku up close brings to mind Bill Shankly's invitation to reporters when unveiling centre-back Ron Yeats at Anfield many years ago: "Go on, walk around him." The 20-year-old is built like a heavyweight boxer and the sight of Everton's press officer handing him a new Xbox controller to replace the one he broke in frustration playing a video game recently only enhances the feeling you are dealing with a rare force of nature.

  • Andre Villas-Boas spoke to Sky Sports: "We decided to give the confidence to the boys that have been playing in the Premier League. good results recently and we decided to go with the same starting XI.

"We've had a good week against Hull. Bearing in mind the amount of minutes we played we took into account the players that played 120 minutes so we slot in a fresh side that is ready for this challenge.

"We have to be aware of Lukaku. He's in a great run of form and is really driven to succeed. We have to be careful with his pace, power and physical presence. We spoke a lot about him in the team meeting and we hope the players can respond."

    11/3/2013 1:32:27 PM

  • Everton 0 Tottenham 0: Everton just can't seem to get into this game, Spurs have started very well at Goodison Park, putting the hosts under pressure with a succession of corners and free kicks in their half.

  • Everton 0 Tottenham 0: As the more observant of you will have noticed, it's still goalless at Goodison Park, but Everton are starting to get into the game more now. Lukaku made a powerful run into the Tottenham box but he's well tackled.

  • Everton 0 Tottenham 0: Everton are the team finishing this half on top, they have a dangerous looking free kick which comes off the wall and goes for a corner. Can they nick a goal before the break?

  • HALF TIME - Everton 0 Tottenham 0
Both sides have had spells of dominance, particularly Tottenham, but neither team has had much penetration up front. Interesting second half coming up, it will be intriguing to see how both managers use the array of talent on their respective benches.

  • Aerial carnage

    11/3/2013 3:03:52 PM
  • Everton 0 Tottenham 0: Ooof that looks painful, Lloris intercepts a through ball meant for Lukaku but the burly Belgian accidentally catches him in the face with his knee and it looks like the keeper is knocked out briefly. He gets up groggily and after some delay he persuades everyone that he is ok to carry on so Brad Friedel doesn't get to come on.
    11/3/2013 3:10:58 PM

    11/3/2013 3:26:05 PM
  • FULL TIME

    Everton 0 Tottenham 0
Not as dull as the scoreline would suggest, but neither side could find a way to beat the other's defence. Tottenham's lack of goals so far this season starting to become a bit of problem you feel.
