  • Welcome to today's Premier League game...

One man who could be key today is Tottenham's keeper...

Hugo Lloris readily admits it. He's never exactly been backwards about coming forward.

"Since my professional debut I've always had a risky game. I try to control my box. I always think the goalkeeper has to be the chief of the box. It's his area and he has to defend it."

  • One player who has impressed so far this season at Villa Park is Ashley Westwood...

There is a long list of players who honed their talents at Crewe Alexandra before making their mark in the top flight of English football, from David Platt to Danny Murphy, via Geoff Thomas, Neil Lennon and Robbie Savage – and those are just the midfielders.

  • One man who will be firmly in the spotlight after his England heroics is Tottenham's Andros Townsend. Can he handle the weight of expectation?
    10/20/2013 2:44:02 PM
  • This man likes Aston Villa more than you....
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 2:46:35 PM
  • There are less than 10 minutes to kick off and it's honestly hard to say which way this game will go... Tottenham surely can't repeat their performance against West Ham can they?
    10/20/2013 2:53:32 PM
  • The players are out on the pitch and being soaked by a torrential downpour. Looks pretty hideous weather in the midlands.
    10/20/2013 2:58:49 PM
  • And we're off...
    10/20/2013 3:01:32 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: Early chance for Gabby Agbonlahor but he can't capitalise. He got the ball in the middle of the area and did well to spin and get a shot away but blasted it over the bar.
    10/20/2013 3:04:20 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: Villa have definitely started the brighter of the two teams and already look like they will be keeping a close watch on Andros Townsend.

  • No more tracksuits... Paul Lambert clearly spent much of his summer getting a fancy new wardrobe at Bicester Village...

    10/20/2013 3:09:05 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: Early booking for Ashley Westwood who mistimes a tackle on Lewis Holtby and just ends up kicking the German international in the shins. Definite yellow card despite the protestations of Paul Lambert.
    10/20/2013 3:11:11 PM
  • Gabby Agbonlahor is dispossed by Sandro...

    10/20/2013 3:18:42 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: Just over 15 minutes gone and nobody has managed to break the deadlock yet. Spurs are beginning to play their way into the game a little more though.
    10/20/2013 3:19:39 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: Free kick in a dangerous position for Villa and they almost take the lead as the ball is whipped in and bounces trickily just before Lloris who in the end does well to palm it away.
    10/20/2013 3:22:35 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 0: First threat really from Spurs who have a free kick wide on the right but Vertonghen can't quite get on the end of it and it goes past the outside of the post. Villa meanwhile counter attack but Weimann blasts a shot over the bar.

  • So far Andros Townsend has been well marshalled by Villa...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 3:31:33 PM
  • GOAL! Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1 - Andros Townsend
Well no sooner had I said that Villa were keeping Townsend quiet, he pops up and scores his first league goal for Spurs. The winger had the ball wide on the right and tried to cross the ball in but it evaded everyone including Brad Guzan in the Villa goal and nestled into the far corner of the net.
    10/20/2013 3:32:11 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Tottenham have burst into life now, suddenly Townsend seems to have found some more space and so too the rest of his midfield comrades. Sigurdsson heading a good chance wide.
    10/20/2013 3:37:34 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Villa have a free kick in a dangerous area just outside the box. 'David Beckham territory' if you will. However Bacuna blasts it over the top.
    10/20/2013 3:40:08 PM
  • A linesman was hit by a flare following Tottenham's goal...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 3:42:02 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Chance for Villa, Westwood pulls the ball back to Weimann who is lurking just inside the area but the striker's shot is just wide of the post. A sprawling Hugo Lloris had it covered anyway.
    10/20/2013 3:42:55 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Two minutes of added time to be tacked on to this half and Villa will have a last opportunity to try and level things up with a free kick in Tottenham's half. Sigurdsson clears and Spurs eventually launch a counter attack with Townsend nearly scoring again - Guzan just pushing a low shot round the post.
    10/20/2013 3:48:25 PM
Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Villa keep the corner out and go into half time only one goal down.

    10/20/2013 4:06:16 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Good save from Brad Guzan who once again gets down low to steer a shot round his post. This time keeping out Paulinho's effort.
    10/20/2013 4:09:52 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: This game starting to open up a bit more and that seems to be good news for Tottenham who are looking dangerous once again. Andros Townsend continuing to impress.
    10/20/2013 4:14:12 PM
  • Andre Villas-Boas' impression of Gabby Agbonlahor's gace is really quite good...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 4:15:30 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: Gabby Agbonlahor clatters Kyle Walker with the sort of menace he normally reserves for members of boy bands and he is given a yellow card for his troubles. To be honest I think Walker slightly made the most of that collision.
    10/20/2013 4:19:25 PM
  • IT'S BENTEKE TIME for Aston Villa. The fantastically named Libor Kozak makes way.
    10/20/2013 4:20:14 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 1: The new man nearly makes an immediate impact! Great cross into the area by Bacuna and the imposing Belgian striker leaps but can't get on top of his header and it goes over the bar.
    10/20/2013 4:23:20 PM
  • Sandro battles for the ball with Libor Kozak...

    10/20/2013 4:25:21 PM
  • GOAL! Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2 - Roberto Soldado
That should be the match for Tottenham and it's a great goal. Soldado and Holtby trade passes before the German finds Paulinho whose clever lay off to Soldado running into the box is swept into the net. Excellent play from Tottenham.
    10/20/2013 4:27:49 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: Oooh, close from Townsend who just curls a bold effort over the bar. He hasn't disappointed today.

    10/20/2013 4:35:13 PM
  • Michael Dawson protests his yellow card...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 4:37:49 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: Oh dear, oh dear. Tottenham should be 3-0 up really. Townsend skins his opposite number and whips a cross across the face of goal but Paulinho somehow manages to avoid heading it into the net. 'It was harder to miss" etc.
    10/20/2013 4:43:03 PM
  • Paulinho and Roberto Soldado celebrate Tottenham's second goal...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 4:45:43 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: Just under five minutes left and Spurs are making their last change, Jermain Defoe coming on for Soldado.
    10/20/2013 4:46:39 PM
  • More goal celebrating from Spurs...
    by Charles Reynolds

    10/20/2013 4:48:36 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: Into injury time now and ANDROS TOWNSEND is named Man of the Match. What a couple of weeks he's having!
    10/20/2013 4:51:21 PM
  • Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2: Temper, temper... Couple of yellow cards flying about here, first Delph for a cruncher on Townsend and then Lennon snapping at Weimann. Not long to go now.
    10/20/2013 4:53:17 PM

Aston Villa 0 Tottenham 2 - Andros Townsend refuses to stay out of the headlines as Spurs earn a deserved win at Villa Park. The home side looked dangerous at points but were fairly disappointing overall.
