Welcome to The Independent's coverage of the Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Follow all the latest news below...
  • FT: Manchester United 0 Chelsea 0
    • The match kicked off at 8pm
    • Rooney plays 90 minutes for United
    • Neiter side able to break the deadlock
    8/26/2013 12:00:53 PM
  • 48 min: Torres is warming up on the bench. Should Mourinho bring him on, it wouldn't exactly fill Chelsea fans with confidence that a goal would be imminent.

    8/26/2013 8:06:33 PM
  • 50 min: RVP tussles with Terry in the box but the former England captain is too wise to give him a chance to go down.

    8/26/2013 8:08:51 PM
  • 51 min: Shot from Hazard - again another effort from the edge of the box. And again straight at the keeper. I'm sure they must have been told this in training, but the idea is to put it beyond the reach of the keeper lads.

    8/26/2013 8:10:08 PM
  • There's Moyes - perhaps advising his players to put it beyond the reach of the keeper.

    8/26/2013 8:11:26 PM
  • 55 min: Now that's a bit extreme Danny. Welbeck takes a shot from range but it's not just beyond the keeper, it's beyond the post by a mile.

    8/26/2013 8:13:37 PM
  • 56 min: Oh no. He's hit it wide again but this time he really should have done much better. Rooney edges to to his England team-mate and Welbeck turns in the box. His footing is awkward and Welbeck ends up stabbing it high and wide. Should have put that on target at least.

    8/26/2013 8:15:10 PM

  • 8/26/2013 8:15:37 PM
  • 58 min: Valencia gets the better of Cole and breaks down the right. Jones goes inside of him and is calling for it but the pass to him is poor. Groans around Old Trafford but this match is coming to life.

    8/26/2013 8:17:14 PM
  • 59 min: BOOM! Lovey low curling shot from Cahill is well saved by De Gea. BOOM! Schurlle hits the bar - but he would have been offside anyway. BUST? Torres is on for De Bruyne.
    8/26/2013 8:18:47 PM
  • 62 min: PENALTY SHOUT - Cleverley smacks the ball from the edge of the box and it hits the hands of Lampard. But the Chelsa man could have done little about getting out the way of that one. Good call by the ref.

    8/26/2013 8:21:20 PM
  • 63 min: I would love Torres to prove me wrong, but he quickly shows why his reputation is in tatters. He makes a decent run at the United backline but then doesn't seem to know what to do with it and the ball just runs away from him.

    8/26/2013 8:22:31 PM
  • 8/26/2013 8:23:15 PM
  • 65 min: RVP is screaming for the pass but Rooney has a whack from range. It's on target but simple for Cech. This match is really opening up as Oscar is very close to connecting to a deep cross. Valencia goes off for Ashley Young.

    8/26/2013 8:24:44 PM

  • 8/26/2013 8:25:47 PM
  • Little stat that may worry some United fans. But it's good one for the neutrals - no draws...

    8/26/2013 8:27:32 PM
  • 70 min: United must be loving the sight of Torres receiving the ball. Every time he's had it he's lost it. 20 minutes to go - a goal now would probably be enough to win it for either side.

    8/26/2013 8:29:41 PM
  • 72 min: Ashley Cole furious that he hasn't been awarded a penalty. He claims he was tugged back by Jones. Replays show there was hardly anything in it. Another good call by the ref.

    8/26/2013 8:30:58 PM
  • 73 min: With United fans chanting "attack, attack" Rooney gives it away and Chelsea are now the ones on the front foot. Could go either way this match right now.

    8/26/2013 8:32:24 PM
  • 75 min: From Chelsea's first corner of the match they put on the pressure but no-one can quite connect to one of the number of crosses that flashes across the United box.

    8/26/2013 8:33:58 PM
  • 78 min: Rasping shot from Rooney. It looked to be going just wide of the post but Cech pushes it away to be on the safe side. Giggs is on for Welbeck.

    8/26/2013 8:37:13 PM
  • 8/26/2013 8:37:35 PM
  • 81 min: As we enter the final 10 minutes, Torres does something. He gets booked.

    8/26/2013 8:38:54 PM
  • 82 min: United seeing more of the ball but Chelsea still look just as likely. With the quality they have anything could happen. The ref stops play with Evra holding his throat after a collision with Torres and Vidic.

    8/26/2013 8:41:23 PM
  • The United fans appear to be offering Ashley Cole their best wishes...

    8/26/2013 8:42:30 PM
  • 86 min: Last few minutes. A few free-kicks have slowed things down a little. Let's have a blockbuster finish... if only to give the BBC something to show on the delayed MOTD2 put back from Sunday night.

    8/26/2013 8:44:59 PM
  • 87 min: Mikel on for Schurrle. Doesn't exactly scream blockbuster does it.

    8/26/2013 8:46:01 PM
  • 88 min: RVP screams blockbuster though and he very nearly had the winner. A volley from inside the box smashes Mikel on the arm. Shouts for a penalty but that would have been harsh.

    8/26/2013 8:47:26 PM

  • 8/26/2013 8:47:47 PM
  • 90 + 1 min: Three minutes of added time and at the moment Chelsea are messing about on the left, doing everything but putting a cross in.

    8/26/2013 8:49:15 PM
  • 90 + 2 min: Chelsea just holding possession at the moment - no urgency.

    8/26/2013 8:50:30 PM
  • 90 + 3 min: Torres gives it away yet again though and United break through Rooney - they have a corner...

    8/26/2013 8:51:27 PM
  • FT: Is it Moyesy time? Rooney tries a spectacular volley from the corner but doesn't quite connect. It's full-time.

    8/26/2013 8:53:02 PM
  • FT: Well that was a bit of a let down. After all the build-up of Moyes v Mourinho - will Rooney play etc - it ends 0-0. Sky Sports will be wishing they let BT have this one...

    8/26/2013 8:55:16 PM
  • 8/26/2013 8:57:19 PM
  • 8/26/2013 9:09:26 PM
  • That's all from me tonight. Thanks for joining me. Fingers crossed the next one is a bit more exciting.
