• FT: Manchester United 3 Aston Villa 0
• The match kicked-off at 8pm
• Robin van Persie scores after 82 seconds
• The Dutchman makes it two with an incredible volley after 13 mins
• RVP completes a first-half hat-trick
• The full-time whistle goes
• Manchester United are champions

• HT: It's half-time here - but it might as well be full-time. This match is over. But the party's just getting started and you can expect the United players out there will want to get it on the act in the second period.
4/22/2013 7:50:42 PM
• HT: As for Aston Villa - they may begin looking ahead to the games they actually have a chance of winning. But they can't afford to roll over (any more than they already have). As it stands they will have a goal difference two worse off than Wigan, who are three points behind with a game in hand. With the two sides meeting on the last day of the season, goal difference could well decide who survives.
4/22/2013 7:54:28 PM
• Gary Neville discussing RVP's incredible volley...

There have been very goals this season that have given me the 'Neville shriek' - if you will.

We will Gary. Second half coming up...
4/22/2013 7:56:43 PM
• 46 min: Second half under way... El Ahmadi is on for Villa.
4/22/2013 8:03:40 PM
• 50 min: United have had two corners already this half but it's Villa now trying to work the ball around the park. Weimann crosses to the back post and De Gea flaps at it. It goes for a corner which is cleared off the line! And guess who's on the line? RVP!
4/22/2013 8:07:58 PM
• 52 min: Some Rooney stats - he's making his 400th appearance for United and he's scored 8 in his last 9 games against Villa. He'll need to get a bit further forward if he's to add to that tonight.
4/22/2013 8:09:17 PM
• 54 min: Benteke goes close. Rooney loses possession on the edge of the box and the ball comes to the Villa striker who shoots on the turn. De Gea does well to get down to it.
4/22/2013 8:11:35 PM

• I just hope benteke scores because then I'll be happy #bets ip via Twitter at 9:11 PM

Villa need to keep getting the ball to benteke fried chicken because he's awesome The Original Faggio via Twitter at 9:11 PM

Benteke your not beating de gea tonight sorry Umar_locc via Twitter at 9:11 PM

46 min: Second half under way... El Ahmadi is on for Villa.

4/22/2013 8:12:17 PM
• 58 min: Villa looking much better this half. More comfortable on the ball and being more patient with it. Not leading to many chances though.
4/22/2013 8:15:30 PM
• Some hat-trick/RVP stats from Opta...
506 - It is 506 days since a player scored 4+ goals in a Premier League game (Yakubu for Blackburn vs Swansea). Target. OptaJoe via Twitter at 9:01 PM

11 - The five players to have more PL hat-tricks than RVP are Shearer (11), Fowler (9), Owen (8), Henry (8) & Rooney (6). Stellar. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:37 PM

5 - Robin van Persie has now scored five PL hat-tricks, drawing level with Andy Cole, D Berbatov, Ian Wright & R van Nistelrooy. Fab. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:36 PM

72 - Since January 1st 2011, Robin van Persie has scored 72 goals in 89 Premier League appearances. Rampant. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:51 PM
4/22/2013 8:18:05 PM
• He's old enough to be your father! Ryan Giggs (39) takes on Matthew Lowton (23)...

4/22/2013 8:21:03 PM
• 64 min: RVP nearly turns provider. Rooney shoots from range. It's blocked. But the ball runs to van Persie who crosses it back in and Rooney takes it first time but sends it high and wide.
4/22/2013 8:22:18 PM
• 68 min: Has the feel of a keep-ball session at the moment. Both teams looking to hold on to the ball when in possession without really going anywhere with it. Villa fans are now cheering every pass. And they nearly had something to cheer without any irony with Weimann almosy putting it beyond De Gea. Unfortunately he put it beyond the post as well.
4/22/2013 8:25:57 PM
• 71 min: Giggs goes more direct, running at the defence before finding Kagawa in the box. The Japan international tries some nifty tricks. But they're not nearly nifty enough.
4/22/2013 8:28:28 PM
• 72 min: Nearly 4-0. Rooney puts a corner in and it comes off the inside of Evans' heel and nearly goes into the corner. It's cleared away though. And that'll be Rooney's last contribution. He's taken off for Welbeck.
4/22/2013 8:30:01 PM
• 74 min: Agbonlahor surges into the box but the angle becomes too tight and his cross is intercepted by De Gea. Keep ball time again for United with the fans raising their voices inside Old Trafford as they begin to see the clock nearing 90 minutes.
4/22/2013 8:31:47 PM
• 76 min: Great shot from El Ahmadi. It comes from range and is dipping under the bar, only for De Gea to tip it over.
4/22/2013 8:33:13 PM
• 78 min: WHAT A MISS! It comes to Kagawa on the penalty spot who creates space for himself and just needs to slot it into the back of the net. Somehow he smashes it over the bar. You might have won the title, but there's no excuse for that.
4/22/2013 8:36:21 PM

• What I hate about football is that kagawa and plenty other footballers get paid over 50,000 a week and he can't put it on target from there Ollie Buckle via Twitter at 9:36 PM

Kagawa :O K via Twitter at 9:36 PM

Kagawa is just another Park Ji-Sung Raikage Amissah via Twitter at 9:36 PM

4/22/2013 8:37:16 PM
• I wonder if they've got the 0 and the 2 at the ready...

4/22/2013 8:39:13 PM
• 84 min: Valencia very nearly in there. He plays a great one two with Da Silva but the return pass is ever so slightly over hit and Guzan rushes out to collect.
4/22/2013 8:41:48 PM
• 86 min: It's the United fans' turn to begin cheering every pass, but Valencia's loose cross sees the hurrahs come to an end. They soon start up again though.
4/22/2013 8:43:19 PM
• 88 min: Villa win a free-kick on the left hand corner of the box. Can they get themselves a consolation? El Ahmadi puts it over the wall but it's straight at De Gea.
4/22/2013 8:45:39 PM
• 89 min: Perhaps United will put the cherry on top instead. They win one corner and then another... but Villa clear it upfield.
4/22/2013 8:46:51 PM
• 90 + 1 min: 2 minutes of added time to come as Villa break dangerously. Unfortunately there's no one on the end of Weimann's cross.
4/22/2013 8:48:53 PM
• 90 + 2 min: RVP nearly lays one on for Welbeck but the ball is intercepted on the edge of the box.
4/22/2013 8:49:52 PM
• FT: The full-time whistle goes. MANCHESTER UNITED ARE CHAMPIONS...
4/22/2013 8:50:34 PM
• FT: The United players are out celebrating on the pitch to chants of 'Champions' from their supporters.
4/22/2013 8:51:55 PM
• FT: The camera's are focusing on Robin van Persie and rightly so. Not only for tonight but the season in general. The Dutchman scored a hat-trick tonight to secure the three points they needed to nudge over the line. And it's his goals throughout the season which have given United that edge to reclaim the title.

• Gary Neville on winning the title and Robin van Persie...

It's the most incredible feeling. They fully deserve it. RVP has been a critical signing, particularly in the early part of the season, his goals carried them through. Look at his face.

4/22/2013 8:56:24 PM
• Gary Neville on Sir Alex Ferguson...

Relentless - that's the only word I can use to describe him.

He's not going to pack it in. He's going to go again.

• Wayne Rooney speaking on the turf at Old Trafford...

It's what we've worked all year for. We fully deserved it. It's a fantastic night for us.

When you lose the title it's hard to take. We've all dug in deep and worked together and thankfully tonight we've finished the job off.

The manager's got great desire and we all buy into that and want to do well with the club. He's not going to pack it in. He's going to go again.

• Gary Neville on what lies ahead for the United players...
