World Cup 2014 LIVE: Day 18 including reaction to the Netherlands' dramatic comeback victory over Mexico and Costa Rica win on a penalty shoot-out over Greece

Welcome to The Independent's coverage of day 18 at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil. Samuel Stevens and Marc Williams brought you the action as the Dutch go through to the quarter-finals with a dramatic last minute comeback against Mexico and ten-man Costa Rica beat Greece on penalties...

HT: Don't forget the victor of this game claims the right to play Holland in the quarter-final on July 5th! Some prize, so let's hope for better in the second half. Action about to get back underway!

    Perhaps this explains it...

    6/29/2014 9:02:54 PM
45 min: Greece get us going again in Recife! No changes at halftime. Are we in for extra-time and penalties like yesterday??
    6/29/2014 9:05:20 PM
46 min: Neither of these sides has ever been beyond the Last 16 stage of a World Cup, this is Greece's first appearance in the knock-out stages altogether. History will be made tonight one way or the other.
    6/29/2014 9:07:29 PM
48 min: The first spark of the second half as Yeltsin Tejeda goes in hard on Giorgos Karagounis and picks up a yellow card. The referee couldn't wait to get his card out then but thankfully it is only yellow.
    6/29/2014 9:09:36 PM
GOAL!!! Costa Rica 1 Greece 0 Bryan Ruiz!!
    6/29/2014 9:12:28 PM
52 min: It's that man again, Bryan Ruiz! Costa Rica's captain gets his second goal of the World Cup and that is just what tonight needed! Christian Bolanos does well down the left and picks out Ruiz with his pull back. The Fulham man makes no mistake as he sweeps it into the back of the net. We have lift off!!
    6/29/2014 9:15:06 PM
54 min: Penalty appeal! Costa Rica could have made it two goals in just a few minutes here but they are denied a clear penalty. Vasilis Torosidis handles in the box after misjudging a cross but the referee gives nothing.
    6/29/2014 9:16:30 PM
    You think, Robbie?

And Brian, we have one now!

    6/29/2014 9:17:38 PM
57 min: Greece are going home as it stands and they make a change to try and get their game going. Andreas Samaris goes off and Kostas Mitroglou comes on, plenty for Fulham fans to cheer on!
    6/29/2014 9:19:58 PM
62 min: Well Kostas Mitroglou scored five of Greece's 12 goals in qualifying, so in him they have a man who knows his way to the net, not that Fulham fans would agree with that too much. They need him now, for than ever. Not much action since the goal...
    6/29/2014 9:22:58 PM
Captain fantastic, Bryan Ruiz's goal is sending his team through as it stands...

    6/29/2014 9:24:24 PM
RED CARD!!! Oscar Duarte (Costa Rica)!
    6/29/2014 9:26:38 PM
66 min: Well, that could change things up a bit! Oscar Duarte picks up his second yellow of the night and quite rightly so. Silly, needless bookings but he has to go. 25 minutes left in Recife and Costa Rica will have to hold on with 10 men!
    6/29/2014 9:28:03 PM
70 min: Greece will have to go for it now and they have been giving a huge lifeline with that sending off. They throw on Fanis Gekas for Dimitris Salpingidis.
    6/29/2014 9:30:54 PM
117 min: Some tired, tired bodies out there now and Keylor Navas goes down hurt, not for the first time today. All the substitutes have been made though, so Costa Rica will have to make do.
    6/29/2014 10:25:34 PM
120 min: Joel Campbell musters his final ounces of strength to win his side a free-kick and a half chance. It comes to nothing as Giancarlo Gonzalez goes for a spectacular over-the-head kick from the edge of the box. Stupid!
    6/29/2014 10:27:27 PM
123 min: Wow, where is Costa Rica's energy coming from?! They win a free-kick which Joel Campbell whips in well but no one can get a telling touch. Greece fly forward on the counter with a five-on-two attack but Navas saves well to deny Gekas a late, late winner!
    6/29/2014 10:30:24 PM
    Exhausting work for all involved!

    6/29/2014 10:31:41 PM
125 min: Into the last five minutes of this game. Do we have a winner or will it be penalties? Greece have a corner...
    6/29/2014 10:33:17 PM
126 min: Jose Holebas takes the corner but it is cleared back out to him and this time he is caught offside. That whistle is glorious music to the Costa Rican ears!
    6/29/2014 10:34:42 PM
128 min: That's the player Fulham know and er, love! Kostas Mitroglou completes two nice step-overs to get himself a yard to space. He then winds up his effort but blasts it 20 yards high and wide, awful!
    6/29/2014 10:36:41 PM
130 min: Two more minutes of added-time...
    6/29/2014 10:37:29 PM
131 min: Some finish to this game and what a save from Navas!! Absolutely amazing! Mitroglou denied the winner!
    6/29/2014 10:38:32 PM
FULL TIME OF EXTRA TIME! Costa Rica 1 Greece 1

That is full time and we do need penalties to sort this one out!
    6/29/2014 10:39:42 PM
What a performance from Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Keylor Navas! Time for penalties!

    6/29/2014 10:41:39 PM
    Twitter is still enjoying itself!

    6/29/2014 10:42:55 PM
