England look dejected after Montenegro equalise.

Much of the pre-match talk has focused on Wayne Rooney - and whether he can keep his temper in check. Of course the reason why is because last time England faced Montenegro, the striker lashed out and got himself sent off for his troubles. Watch the incident here...

  • 31 min: England so on top here with Gerrard seeing his shot from inside the box bravely blocked. The away side need to take advantage of this domination. Johnson is booked.
    3/26/2013 8:31:59 PM
  • Ireland now level with Austria.
    3/26/2013 8:33:02 PM
  • 34 min: Lescott plays a slightly nervy long ball out of defence but it's fair to say he and Smalling have looked solid so far.
    3/26/2013 8:35:00 PM
  • 36 min: Montenegro have their best spell of possession but are failing to find any gaps in the England defence as yet. Vukcevic tries to break into the box but loses it.
    3/26/2013 8:37:18 PM
  • The Independent's Kevin Garside on the England captain...

  • 39 min: Johnson gives it away too easily after a nice spell of possession from England. They really have been passing it around nicely tonight. Apparently only Spain and Germany have made more passes during the World Cup qualifiers.
    3/26/2013 8:40:36 PM
  • 41 min: Rooney very nearly finds Gerrard who was bursting into the box. Just ahead of him.
    3/26/2013 8:41:59 PM
  • Ireland have turned things around against Austria. They now lead 2-1.
    3/26/2013 8:42:53 PM
  • 43 min: Welbeck has been booked for diving in the box. At first look it appears to be a penalty to England and replays aren't conclusive. The United striker gets ahead of his man and there's a tangle of legs. May not have been a penalty but booking seems very harsh.
    3/26/2013 8:44:59 PM

  • We're definitely in Montenegro then. Welbeck booked for getting clattered. clare mulderrig via Twitter at 8:45 PM

I suspect that if Welbeck was at Old Trafford the decision would have been different. Daniel Reuben via Twitter at 8:45 PM

    3/26/2013 8:46:20 PM
  • 45 min: Gerrard swings in his corner despite a barrage of missiles being thrown at him. He looks to find Smalling but Montenegro clear it away.
    3/26/2013 8:47:26 PM
  • HT: The half-time whistle goes. England lead thanks to Rooney's goal.
    3/26/2013 8:48:22 PM
  • What do you make of the first half? Should Welbeck have had a penalty? Will England rue the fact they're not further ahead? Let us know...
    3/26/2013 8:49:25 PM
  • England celebrate after taking the lead through Wayne Rooney's header.

    3/26/2013 8:50:56 PM
  • HT: A fine half from England all-in-all. If anything they should be further ahead. Rooney opened the scoring after just five minutes and there have been many chances since owing to some slick football from England. For all the pre-match talk about England's opponents, Montenegro have been underwhelming.
    3/26/2013 8:54:39 PM

  • Roy Keane speaking on ITV...
I think Hodgson will be delighted at half time but he'll have to expect more from Montenegro (in the second half).
Too true Roy - Montenegro can't get much worse.

    3/26/2013 9:02:37 PM
  • 46 min: The second half is off...
    3/26/2013 9:05:28 PM
  • 47 min: Decent start from Montenegro from the off with Carrick forced to make a clearance.
    3/26/2013 9:06:47 PM
  • 49 min: For a second that looked like a goal for Montenegro. Vucinic involved again and a deep cross is headed into the side netting. England yet to get going.
    3/26/2013 9:09:02 PM
  • 52 min: Better from England. The ball is worked through the middle and Rooney shoots from range. It's blocked but falls to Milner whose cross is turned out for a corner. Gerrard's delivery is too easy for the keeper though.
    3/26/2013 9:11:27 PM
  • The Independent's Kevin Garside...
Eng would be clear with greater composure around the box. Need a second goal Kevin Garside via Twitter at 9:05 PM
    3/26/2013 9:12:29 PM
  • 55 min: Montenegro win a corner after some much sharper passing. Basa is on the end of it but it goes for another corner. Hart punches clear. England dealing with them so far.
    3/26/2013 9:15:10 PM
  • 58 min: Bozovic strikes a volley from inside the box but can't get ahold of it. Montenegro getting in sight of the England goal right now. Will England rue their failure to take more advantage of their first half dominance?
    3/26/2013 9:17:49 PM
  • 59 min: "Sloppy" and "lack of concentration" is how Andy Townsend is summing up England right now.
    3/26/2013 9:19:02 PM
  • 60 min: Vucinic with a great chance. The home side take a quick corner and it drops to the talented striker but his guided effort goes over the bar. Let off for England.
    3/26/2013 9:20:00 PM
  • Ireland and Wales still ahead in their matches but it looks like a defeat for Scotland is on the cards. They're losing 2-0 against Serbia with just a couple of minutes to go. Meanwhile, Spain are ahead against France. You can watch that match here.
    3/26/2013 9:23:34 PM
  • 65 min: A spell of pressure from England with Gerrard putting in a couple of crosses but Montenegro break dangerously and should have done much better. It was 3-on-2 for a moment. Scotland have lost 2-0.
    3/26/2013 9:25:29 PM
  • 67 min: Rooney with a free-kick from a dangerous position. It clears the wall but not the keeper. Not quite a repeat of his fine effort against San Marino. Croatia have equalised against Wales - now 1-1 in Swansea.
    3/26/2013 9:26:57 PM
  • Stevan Jovetic in action against Glen Johnson.

    3/26/2013 9:28:35 PM
  • The Independent's Kevin Garside...
I've seen quite enough of cleverley for one night Kevin Garside via Twitter at 9:28 PM
    3/26/2013 9:29:46 PM
  • 71 min: Vucinic finds a yard of space inside the box and is able to crash a shot at goal. Hart is behind it. The home side remain well on top in this second half.
    3/26/2013 9:30:53 PM
  • 73 min: Close for England. Gerrard works it to Milner who shows some fancy footwork before putting in a dangerous cross. It's cleared... just. Then Montenegro go down the other end and Vucinic shoots from the edge of the box. Hart is beat but it goes wide... just. I feel another goal coming.
    3/26/2013 9:32:37 PM
  • 75 min: Great save by Hart. The ball bounces nicely on the edge of the box for Jovetic and he wallops it at goal but the City keeper puts it round the post. From the resulting corner the ball hits the post.
    3/26/2013 9:34:47 PM
  • GOAL!

    Serbia are level. 1-1.

    3/26/2013 9:36:31 PM
  • 77 min: What a scramble that was. A corner came in and Hart saved well from a bullet header but Damjanovic was able to poke it in.
    3/26/2013 9:38:06 PM
  • The Independent's Kevin Garside...
Eng midfield lost all function. Neither keeping possession nor breaking it up. Time for manager to make a difference Kevin Garside via Twitter at 9:34 PM
    3/26/2013 9:38:33 PM
  • 80 min: Flares going off all round the ground - the pitch looks like a war zone right now with all the smoke across it. Ashley Young has come on for England.
    3/26/2013 9:39:43 PM
  • 82 min: We're into the final 10 minutes as Gerrard delivers a cross from the right. Montenegro break but Vucinic's shot is blocked.

  • 84 min: Gerrard's shot from range is well saved but Montenegro go down the other end and win a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of England's box...
    3/26/2013 9:43:57 PM
  • 85 min: Vucinic strikes it... well over the bar. Poor shot.
    3/26/2013 9:44:56 PM
  • 87 min: Nearly a freak goal. Gerrard clears it but it whacks off the foot of Vucinic and thankfully Hart is paying attention and is able to tip it over the bar with the ball dropping into the net.
