  • 36 min: Carrick gives away a free-kick after some 'clever' work by Tevez down the left hand side. Milner's delivery is cleared away at the front post though.
    4/8/2013 7:36:31 PM
  • 38 min: Some incisive passing from City around United's box but Welbeck dispossesses Silva and United break. Rooney plays it to Young on the left who finds room for a shot - which is blocked. Good counter attack from the home side.
    4/8/2013 7:39:09 PM
  • 42 min: The ball is played into Silva on the edge of the box before Tevez tries a cheeky little ball over his head. It's over hit though and De Gea collects.
    4/8/2013 7:42:27 PM
  • 43 min: Kompany is the latest player to be booked. The City captain comes in late on Young and he can have few complaints about that. Doesn't stop him complaining of course.
    4/8/2013 7:44:06 PM
  • 45+1 min: Rafael goes very close with a sneaky shot at goal. RVP heads it down to the full-back inside the box and the Brazilian gets a little flick to it which nearly pops into Hart's top corner. Close.
    4/8/2013 7:47:01 PM
  • HT: With City really putting the pressure on at the other end Mike Dean blows for half-time. The visitors surround the ref to complain. Respect.
    4/8/2013 7:48:02 PM
  • HT: The score may be 0-0 but it's been far from a bore draw thus far. City started fantastically with a real zip and intent about their game with most of the good stuff from them going through Milner. United came into the game and looked a real danger on the break with RVP and Young going closest for the home side.

  • This game has had too much hype to be 0-0. If it is I demand Mike Dean sacks off the rules and plays extra time #MUFC #MCFC Ed Hall via Twitter at 8:51 PM

Not a very convincing display on the first half. #MUFC Abhy via Twitter at 8:51 PM

STAT: While #MUFC and #MCFC both had 1 shot each on target, #United had 9 shots in total to #City's 4. Vamsy K via Twitter at 8:51 PM

  • Gary Neville on City...

I think Silva and Tevez have been fantastic.
    and on United...

    They've been wasteful.

  • Some stats from Opta ahead of the second half which will be underway shortly...
43 - Yaya Toure made 43 passes in the first half, 19 more than any Manchester United player did (Carrick 24). Involved. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:59 PM

20 - Man Utd have won 20 and drawn two of their last 22 Premier League home games that have been 0-0 at half-time. Patience. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:53 PM

1 - The last away team to win a PL game at Old Trafford after going in 0-0 at HT were Arsenal (1-0) in September 2006. Distant. OptaJoe via Twitter at 8:56 PM

  • 46 min: We're off in the second half...
    4/8/2013 8:03:08 PM
  • 47 min: Good start from City again with first Milner getting a cross in and then Clichy form the other side nearly finding the head of Silva.
    4/8/2013 8:04:16 PM
  • 48 min: United shout for a penalty with Welbeck blocked off inside the box. That would have been harsh.
    4/8/2013 8:05:42 PM
  • 50 min: Rafael wins United a corner which RVP delivers. Jones goes in on Hart too heavily though and City are awarded a free-kick.
    4/8/2013 8:07:23 PM
  • GOAL!

Manchester City are ahead through Milner.
    4/8/2013 8:09:13 PM
  • 54 min: Giggs will get the blame for that one after the United midfielder tries a back heel in mindfield which Barry intercepts. The England midfielder breaks down the left before pulling it back to the edge of the box. It's teed up for Milner and he shoots low into the bottom corner.
    4/8/2013 8:10:59 PM

  • All the talent on that pitch and Milner opens the scoring #funnyoldgame paul crean via Twitter at 9:11 PM

    4/8/2013 8:12:24 PM
  • 57 min: Rooney wins it off Yaya in the middle of the park but then United lose it too easily. This is a real derby now - not the prettiest but the energy and atmosphere are electric.
    4/8/2013 8:13:55 PM
  • GOAL!

Rafael shows a burst of pace down the right and is brought down by Yaya in a dangerous position. RVP crosses it in and it's in the back of the net!
    4/8/2013 8:16:15 PM
  • 61 min: At first it looks like Jones who gets the final touch but the United defender makes a bit of a mess of his header. Fortunately for him to hits Kompany and goes in. Again. Not the prettiest but this game is end-to-end right now.
    4/8/2013 8:18:07 PM

  • City celebrate Milner's goal after 51 mins.

    4/8/2013 8:20:02 PM
  • 64 min: Just as SAF predicted before the match, the opening goal has led to a real see-saw nature to the game. Impossible to predict which side will score the next goal - both look capable. Aguero warming up.
    4/8/2013 8:21:56 PM
  • 66 min: Rooney in his element right now - battling for everything. Down the other end Milner tries to thread it through and earns his side a corner. Silva puts it straight into the hands of De Gea though.
    4/8/2013 8:23:36 PM
  • Phil Jones celebrates United's goal equaliser - which will go down as an OG by Kompany - like a maniac.

    4/8/2013 8:26:13 PM
  • 70 min: Rooney tries a dinked shot from the edge of the box but it's a straight forward catch for Hart. Had better options there.
    4/8/2013 8:26:49 PM
  • 72 min: A great chance for Nasri. Silva plays a fine ball into the box and the Frenchman has to strike it first time. It goes over the bar. That'll be the last touch from Nasri as well - he's been replaced by AGUUUUUEEEEEERRRRROOOOOOOOO.
    4/8/2013 8:29:13 PM

  • It amazes me how Aguero doesn't start! #Baller #Goals Ben Johnson via Twitter at 9:29 PM

Im nervous of aguero Frankie via Twitter at 9:29 PM

Aguero is on. He won City the title last season. Can he win them this derby ? Rafay Baakza via Twitter at 9:30 PM

    4/8/2013 8:30:41 PM
  • 75 min: Excellent pressure from United sees Clichy's clearance take a double deflection and lead to a corner. RVP's deliver is cleared away though.
    4/8/2013 8:32:05 PM
  • 77 min: Michael Owen has been spotted sitting amongst the crowd at Old Trafford. Much like his time as a United player then. Young shoots from range.
    4/8/2013 8:34:05 PM
  • 78 min: Decent chance for Yaya who receives the ball inside the box. Had he shifted it onto his left foot rather than coming inside on his right his shot might not have been blocked. This game feels like it has more goals.
    4/8/2013 8:35:22 PM
  • GOAL!

Manchester City are ahead - and it's that man Aguero!
    4/8/2013 8:36:07 PM
  • 80 min: Great goal from Ageuro - and it brings back memories of that league winning strike against QPR last season. After picking it up on the edge of the box he just keeps drifting to the right before smashing it into the top near corner.
    4/8/2013 8:37:47 PM

    4/8/2013 8:38:39 PM
  • 83 min: Can United pull this back then? Welbeck has gone off for Valencia. But it's Giggs pulling the strings with the United midfielder nearly putting it on a plate for RVP. Nearly.
    4/8/2013 8:40:08 PM
  • 84 min: A bit of afters there between Young and Zabaleta with the City man looking to eat up some time. As they say - handbags.
    4/8/2013 8:41:02 PM
  • 85 min: RVP heads at goal but from a distance, can't get enough power on it and Hart collects. Tevez is booked. Meanwhile Rooney is off for Hernandez.
    4/8/2013 8:42:33 PM
  • Milner celebrates his goal with an ironic Tevez-esque cup of the ears.

    4/8/2013 8:43:01 PM
  • 88 min: United win a free-kick out on the left which Young delivers. It somehow goes through everyone after taking a touch off a City foot to lead to a corner. Jones is in there again but can't direct his header on target.
    4/8/2013 8:45:00 PM
  • 89 min: Valencia crosses from the right. Then Evra cross from the left. Then Rafael from the right. It's like a pinball machine but the lights aren't coming on for United.
    4/8/2013 8:46:37 PM
  • 90 min: The players are now fighting between themselves and it looks like Rio Ferdinand is involved. Barry has been booked though.
    4/8/2013 8:47:42 PM
  • 90 + 1 min: 4 minutes of added time as Lescott comes on for Silva.
    4/8/2013 8:48:06 PM
  • 90 + 2 min: Zabaleta gives away a free-kick after fouling Young. The City defender is booked and the United midfielder comes off injured to be replaced by Kagawa.
    4/8/2013 8:49:42 PM
  • 90 + 3 min: United corner is played to Jones again but he can't keep it down. City then try to break and Ageuro does well to win a free-kick on the half-way line.
    4/8/2013 8:50:32 PM
  • 90 + 4 min: Garcia comes on for Tevez who is roundly booed by the Old Trafford crowd.
    4/8/2013 8:51:12 PM
  • 90 + 5 min: Indecisiveness from Kagawa leads to a mix up and Valencia comes in late on Barry. That should be it.
    4/8/2013 8:52:09 PM
  • 90 + 5 min: It's Fergie time though and United win a corner.
    4/8/2013 8:52:30 PM
  • FT: Evra gets his head on it but Hart is behind the shot. And the full-time whistle goes. City win 2-1.
    4/8/2013 8:53:16 PM
  • Substitute Aguero celebrates his winning goal after 78 mins.

    4/8/2013 8:53:55 PM
  • FT: So the Manchester United party is on ice. A win for them tonight would have left them needing 4 points from their remaining seven games. However, tonight's result means they need 10 points from the available 21.
    4/8/2013 8:56:53 PM
  • FT: It was a decent derby that really could have gone either way. Both sides had chances in a match that while not pretty, was allowed to flow and made for an enthralling contest. Surely United will still go on to win the title but a win here - and the double over City - would surely have made it that little sweeter when it finally comes.
    4/8/2013 8:59:18 PM

  • Well that was nice. Aguero is so good. Milner possibly MOTM for me. Well played #MCFC Chris Green via Twitter at 9:59 PM

I accept the title has gone, that game was for pride and City did us all proud! #MCFC Razzle Kicks via Twitter at 9:59 PM

    4/8/2013 9:00:30 PM
  • James Milner, who was awarded the man of the match award, speaks after the match...

For us to win this game is massive. We worked all very hard. If you look at our overall game we were the better team.

    4/8/2013 9:04:44 PM
  • Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany...

I think we deserved that win.
It was a great result. The aim now is to keep that momentum going until the end of the season. We worked hard and got a good win.

This is a good game to have under our belt and we can take it into next season.

    4/8/2013 9:06:14 PM
  • A great win for City, and while the title is surely still heading to Old Trafford, some pride restored in the blue half of Manchester.

That's it from me tonight. You can follow me on Twitter @simonrice
