Today is going to have to be quite remarkable to surpass the insanity of last year's January deadline day. This time last year we saw Fernando Torres move to Chelsea for £50m and Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez arrive at Anfield - with just those three transfers topping £100m. -
This window hasn't been particularly notable (at least yet). Manchester City have kept their cheque book closed, Liverpool are yet to make a splash, United (as usual) have been quiet. Meanwhile, Tottenham, who under Harry Redknapp have tended to provide much of the last minute entertainment, may be quieter than usual owing to the manager's ongoing court case. -
But with so many teams competing at the top and bottom of the league, what happens today could be the difference between the Champions League and the Europa League and the top-flight and the Championship. With so little activity thus far, today could be a busy one. It's proving to be so far... -

One of the most intrigueing rumours doing the rounds is that Tottenham are poised to sign Louis Saha from Everton. It's claimed they are trying to bring the Frenchman to White Hart Lane on a loan deal. Should Spurs be able to force it through, it could see the end of Roman Pavlyuchenko's time at the club. It can be presumed that Everton will only allow Saha to leave should they complete the proposed deal with Rangers for Nikica Jelavic. -
If Saha goes to spurs, I hope we get Pienaar back. Jelavic is going to need some creativity behind him...by petershields23 via twitter 1/31/2012 1:28:10 PM -

Whilst perhaps the most intrigueing is 'Defoe to Liverpool'. We'll update you if there's any substance to that last one. -

Arsenal misfit Andrei Arshavin is in preliminary talks with Russian heavyweights Anzhi Makhachkala according to numerous reports today. Most Gooners won't be too upset to see him go judging by the boos he's been receiving recently. The Russian window is open until February 24, so this deal may not happen today. -

So what's happening in the Carlos Tevez saga? Well, there are rumours that Alexandre Pato's transfer to PSG could be back on, which would free up some cash for AC Milan to spend on the Manchester City misfit. Should the Argentinean go, it would likely be the most expensive move of the day. Earlier, it was confirmed that Tevez had appealed to the Premier League against the six-week fine imposed by City for his ongoing absence. www.independent.co.uk -
