January transfer window deadline day

Keep up-to-date with all the latest news and rumours right here on deadline day of the 2012 January transfer window.

  • Welcome to The Independent's coverage of transfer deadline day.
    1/31/2012 1:01:02 PM
  • Today is going to have to be quite remarkable to surpass the insanity of last year's January deadline day. This time last year we saw Fernando Torres move to Chelsea for £50m and Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez arrive at Anfield - with just those three transfers topping £100m.
    1/31/2012 1:03:42 PM
  • This window hasn't been particularly notable (at least yet). Manchester City have kept their cheque book closed, Liverpool are yet to make a splash, United (as usual) have been quiet. Meanwhile, Tottenham, who under Harry Redknapp have tended to provide much of the last minute entertainment, may be quieter than usual owing to the manager's ongoing court case.

  • But with so many teams competing at the top and bottom of the league, what happens today could be the difference between the Champions League and the Europa League and the top-flight and the Championship. With so little activity thus far, today could be a busy one. It's proving to be so far...

    1/31/2012 1:23:50 PM
  • One of the most intrigueing rumours doing the rounds is that Tottenham are poised to sign Louis Saha from Everton. It's claimed they are trying to bring the Frenchman to White Hart Lane on a loan deal. Should Spurs be able to force it through, it could see the end of Roman Pavlyuchenko's time at the club. It can be presumed that Everton will only allow Saha to leave should they complete the proposed deal with Rangers for Nikica Jelavic.
    1/31/2012 1:27:10 PM
  • If Saha goes to spurs, I hope we get Pienaar back. Jelavic is going to need some creativity behind him...
  • That's a strange one!! Saha to #Spurs Being a Yid I'm not sure about this one! Could b good but could also b very bad!!#TransferDeadlineDay
  • Louis Saha's potential move to Tottenham is the big talk on Twitter. Other trending topics on the social networking site include Sulley Muntari, who is apparently swapping Inter for AC Milan. Whilst perhaps the most intrigueing is 'Defoe to Liverpool'. We'll update you if there's any substance to that last one.
    1/31/2012 1:32:12 PM
  • How come defoe to liverpool is trending but rivaldo to bradford isn't?
  • Louis Saha to Spurs is good but Defoe to Liverpool? NoWay!
  • Arsenal misfit Andrei Arshavin is in preliminary talks with Russian heavyweights Anzhi Makhachkala according to numerous reports today. Most Gooners won't be too upset to see him go judging by the boos he's been receiving recently. The Russian window is open until February 24, so this deal may not happen today.
    1/31/2012 1:35:50 PM
  • Who said Deadline Day would be dead? Cisse, Pizarro, Tevez, Arshavin, Jelavic, De Bruyne, Zamora, Saha and more.. All in talks or moving!
  • So what's happening in the Carlos Tevez saga? Well, there are rumours that Alexandre Pato's transfer to PSG could be back on, which would free up some cash for AC Milan to spend on the Manchester City misfit. Should the Argentinean go, it would likely be the most expensive move of the day. Earlier, it was confirmed that Tevez had appealed to the Premier League against the six-week fine imposed by City for his ongoing absence. www.independent.co.uk
    1/31/2012 1:39:06 PM
  • Sky Sports are reporting that QPR have agreed a deal to sign Djibril Cisse from Lazio. They also report that the deal for Fulham's Bobby Zamora is £5m.

  • Newcastle have made their final bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa, manager Alan Pardew said today. He said: "We have made our last bid now and it's a final bid so if he doesn't come today then he probably won't come to this football club because in the summer we will probably look elsewhere." www.independent.co.uk
    1/31/2012 1:45:58 PM
  • The Jermain Defoe to Liverpool story doesn't carry much weight. If you fancy a flutter on it though, SkyBet have the deal at evens to come off.
    1/31/2012 1:47:54 PM
  • DONE DEAL: Sunderland have signed Manchester City left back Wayne Bridge on loan until the end of the season. You can read the full story on their websites... www.mcfc.co.uk and www.safc.com

  • So despite manager Harry Redknapp being in court today, yet again it is Tottenham that are making waves on deadline day - at least if the reports are to be believed. They have been linked with Everton's Louis Saha and Wigan's Hugo Rodallega, while Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko are rumoured to be on their way out.
    1/31/2012 2:06:21 PM

  • We reported earlier that Newcastle had made a final bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa. Sky Sports now say that Wigan have made a bid which has been accepted.
    1/31/2012 2:15:05 PM
  • I will be very dissappointed if Mariappa goes to Wigan. Over-hyped championship club.
  • Wayne Bridge will go straight into the Sunderland squad for tomorrow night's Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich.
    1/31/2012 2:16:40 PM
  • DONE DEAL: After we reported that it was trending on Twitter earlier today, it has been confirmed that Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has joined Serie A champions AC Milan on loan from city rivals Inter Milan.
