Glastonbury 2015

Hello and welcome to The Independent's Glastonbury live blog. We shall be braving the puddles of beer, mud and goodness knows what in order to bring you all you need to know (and some things perhaps you'd rather not) from the biggest and best festival in the world all this week.6/24/2015 10:16:25 AM

Spare a thought for the cows of Worthy Farm...(Getty)
6/24/2015 10:22:40 AM -
The dairy herd have been restricted to the award-winning Moo Hotel since mid-April as an army of staff prepared the site for the festival. When the festival was first started you would get a free glass of milk with your ticket, but sadly that tradition died out long ago.
Don’t think the cows are dairy shirkers though. This year the farm was voted the best dairy farm in Britain by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmer Association and it’s Steve Kearle, the farm manager, who remains the most important man on site. (Words: Jamie Merrill)6/24/2015 10:23:18 AM -

Glastonbury doesn’t actually have a license for outside music until 11am Friday morning, but that doesn’t stop the vast majority of the 135,000 ticket holders flocking to Worthy Farm on Wednesday morning. In fact, festival officials say that last year 90 per cent of all ticket holders had arrived by the end of Wednesday. Add to that the army of 50,000 workers and charity volunteers and the field around Pilton will soon be a city the size of Oxford. (Words: Jamie Merrill)6/24/2015 10:36:58 AM

Very good news for Worthy Farm residents! The dreaded chemical toilet has been banished from Worthy Farm… well almost.6/24/2015 12:24:16 PM
-
Out of the 3,000 plus lavatories on site this year, only “several hundred” are actually chemical loos and most of these are located in the outlying car parks where there is no running water.
That means that once festival goers have escaped the car parks they (most likely) won’t have to battle with the stench of a chemical loo again until Monday morning. Glastonbury organisers call it a “toilet revolution” and say they have spent big to bring 1,300 odour-free composting loos to the site, plus thousands more so-called long drops (more on those later). It all started last year, with the biggest stumbling block this year being adapting environmentally friendly lavatories for wheelchair users. (Words: Jamie Merrill)6/24/2015 12:25:02 PM -

“You could easily go to the entire festival without seeing a band." Those were the words of festival organiser Emily Eavis earlier this week.
She’s not wrong. This year there are even more performances and experience away from the main stages. From a trio of new baby spiders in Arcadia late-night area – first show tonight – to a new late night ale bar above the Park Stage. There’s also a strong lineup of performances from Danza de los Voladores, a troupe of Mexican dancers who will help open the festival at King's Meadow tonight.
That less mainstream side of Glastonbury has grown even stronger. There are 1,500 performances in the Theatre and Circus field alone, says Eavis and a trio of secretive "baby spiders" will join the giant fire-breathing mechanical spider in the late-night area Arcadia. Arcadia is already loved by festival goers who flock to its dystopian avenues in the early hours of the morning, but she is coy about the spiders, only saying the "triplet" will be part of a "phenomenal" new nightly show.
Elsewhere on the site, Eavis says she is looking forward to performances from the Danza de los Voladores, a troupe of Mexican dancers who will help open the festival at King's Meadow tomorrow night. From the top of their 30ft poles they will perform a Mexican ritual ceremony that Eavis says will "wow" festival goers. There is also a new Tor View Lookout by the circus tent, and a new Temple in the Park viewing platform and real ale bar on the site's highest point above the Park Stage.
