The moment that mattered - Ben Watson scores the only goal of the game right at the death.

Wigan celebrate Ben Watson's goal...

And just a few minutes later celebrate the sound of the final whistle.

Martinez does the classic fist-pump move at the final whistle. I think he can be forgiven for forgetting about the threat of relegation for a moment.

  • All that talk this morning is that Roberto Mancini is going to be replaced by Manuel Pellegrini this summer. Not exactly the ideal preparations...

The odds on the Malaga coach succeeding Mancini tumbled to 10-1 on after Mancini acknowledged that even winning the FA Cup against Wigan at Wembley may not be enough to save his job, a report in Spain’s AS newspaper also suggested that Pellegrini was joining the club.

  • Arouna Kone says Wigan plan to 'suffocate' Yaya Toure today. If he means that in the literal sense, there could be a few red cards for the Latics today. If they achieve it in the metaphorical sense, it could make the difference reckons the striker...

He is a really tough opponent, someone who thrives on possession, but if he doesn't have possession that frustrates him and that's something we will try and prevent. Yaya is like the lungs of the team – the vital organ. City are a great team but when he's there, there is something even more special. If we try and suffocate that lung then they are not the same team.

  • Many people dream of lifting the FA Cup, and, it seems, quite a few of those who do so end up dropping it, too. The result is that the famous piece of silverware is not only football’s most venerated trophy, but it is its most accident-prone as well.

  • The silversmiths will be hoping Manchester City don't win today. I'm not sure Tevez can be trusted with the trophy...

  • Have just been walking up Wembley Way amongst the fans. Everyone getting on great and not much to report. Did see someone lose their grip on an Italy flag which then went flying off - some sort of omen about the future of Mancini? Doubt it.
    5/11/2013 3:31:24 PM
  • I've got a little TV in front of me here in the press box. They just had 'former Oasis front man' (presumably viewers wouldn't know who Beady Eye were) Liam Gallagher on. I've got no sound, but I imagine he was saying something prophetic.
    5/11/2013 3:35:40 PM
  • Manchester City team...
Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Yaya Toure, Barry, Silva, Aguero, Nasri; Tevez.
Subs: Pantilimon, Kolarov, Lescott, Javi García, Rodwell, Milner, Dzeko.

    Wigan team...
Joel; Boyce, Scharner, Alcaraz, Espinoza; McArthur, McCarthy, Gomez; McManaman, Kone, Maloney.
Subs: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Watson, Di Santo, Henriquez, Fyvie, Golobar.

    5/11/2013 3:49:46 PM
  • So after getting Manchester City all the way to the final - and conceding just one goal in the process - Pantilimon finds himself dropped to the bench so Joe Hart can come in. Harsh, very harsh Roberto.

The good news for Wigan is that Antolin Alcaraz has been passed fit to play and is in the starting XI.

  • They're playing 'I'm a believer' over the loud speakers. Judging by the amount of flag waving and singing coming from the Wigan end, it would appear they think this choice of song is more for them than City. #believers

  • Crazy scenes here at Wembley - we have fireworks going off, flame throwers, Fatboy Slim being blasted out and around 100 violin players dancing around on the pitch. I didn't see the 1960 FA Cup final but I imagine it wasn't like this in Dave Whelan's playing days.
    5/11/2013 4:02:38 PM
  • It's not every day that Wigan are in the FA Cup final (in fact this is the first) - so why the hell not?

    5/11/2013 4:04:33 PM
  • Time for Abide With Me - the FA Cup anthem. This is a bit more like it - if you're a traditionalist that is. We're less then 10 minutes from kick-off.
    5/11/2013 4:07:11 PM
  • Here comes the FA Cup trophy - complete with emotive music. And now the teams. If you're wondering if Roberto Martinez has gone grey - don't. That's owner Dave Whelan leading the team out.
    5/11/2013 4:09:13 PM
  • Quick girls - get in here - the match is about to start!

    5/11/2013 4:10:59 PM
  • Right, they've just about packed away the flame thrower and we've had the national anthem - I think it's about time for some football. Let's hope it's a good one...
    5/11/2013 4:14:37 PM
  • 1 min: We're off...
    5/11/2013 4:16:40 PM
  • 3 min: Manchester City make the more impressive start - keeping a hold of the ball well and nearly creating a chance for Silva.
    5/11/2013 4:19:09 PM
  • 5 min: Aguero wins his side a free-kick on the edge of the box - it looks like the entire team wants to take it but eventually it's Tevez who steps up. Straight into the wall but Yaya's follow up needs a good save from Robles to keep it out.
    5/11/2013 4:21:02 PM
  • 8 min: Right from the off the City fans have been singing the name of Mancini - seemingly voicing their opinion on the talk today that he will be ousted this summer. Wonder if they'll still be singing his name if City lose today...
    5/11/2013 4:24:40 PM
  • 10 min - CLOSE! Great chance for Wigan. Kone and McManaman work it wonderfully to each other across the pitch. The latter gets into the box, fools Nastasic but then curls it just beyond the post. Great chance.
    5/11/2013 4:26:27 PM
  • 13 min: It would appear City fans outnumber those from Wigan by about 2-to-1 here inside Wembley. It's the smaller group away to my left with more to shout about right now though. They're side are working some good balls around the box and look a threat.
    5/11/2013 4:29:44 PM
  • 16 min: More good play from Wigan and they get themselves a corner when perhaps Kone should have shot earlier. Scharner gets on the end of the delivery but heads over.
    5/11/2013 4:32:07 PM
  • 17 min: Just when Wigan were looking dangerous again - Jame McArthur puts it out of play needlessly. Come on lad - you're team are on top here!
    5/11/2013 4:33:37 PM
  • 20 min: Chants of 'Come on City' are responded to by Wigan fans with chants of 'Come on Wigan'. Surely they could have come up with something more original than that.
    5/11/2013 4:36:01 PM
  • This Wigan fan has already got his hands on the cup! Oh no, it's actually just a tin foil one.

    5/11/2013 4:37:08 PM
  • Come on Wigan we're following you from the South of France. You gotta win!!!
    5/11/2013 4:38:12 PM
  • 23 min: Well Ann, I can't promise Wigan will win but I can tell you that little Shaun Maloney just had a shot from range that went just wide. Have a glass of French red wine and sit back and enjoy the rest of the match.
    5/11/2013 4:39:41 PM
  • 25 min: Nastasic shoots from range but with no power, no sense of direction and it leading to groans from the City fans - I hardly need add that it wasn't his best.
    5/11/2013 4:41:05 PM
  • Aguero in action for City.

    5/11/2013 4:41:25 PM
  • 28 min: Barry (who, as usual I hadn't noticed was playing) pops up to make an essential tackle just outside the box, bringing an end to a great run by McArthur for Wigan.
    5/11/2013 4:44:09 PM
  • 28 min - WHAT A SAVE: Nasri makes a run inside, plays it to Silva who cuts it back to Tevez - surely it's 1-0 to City - but no! Robles makes an incredible stop with his legs and the ball pings over the bar.
    5/11/2013 4:46:49 PM
  • In Spain having a glass of vino reading your updates cheers Simon! Come on Wigan - make my mother proud!
    5/11/2013 4:47:42 PM
  • 33 min: It would appear the readers of the Indy like a glass of wine. And here's something to raise your glass to if you're a Wigan fan - with City looking dangerous Nasri plays a loose ball to no-one much to the delight of the Latics fans here inside Wembley.
    5/11/2013 4:49:13 PM
  • 37 min - CLOSE: Oh McManaman - the Wigan forward goes close again and again. After breaking into the box he turns back after flooring Hart, then when about to shoot, dummies it again but despite all that, when he gets his shot off it's blocked.
    5/11/2013 4:53:27 PM
  • 38 min: Just before that Espinoza played a one-two and when in to the box went down under a challenge - huge shouts for a penalty but the ref was having none having it. The full-back was a bit slow to tumble after the challenge - right call.
