  • So following yesterday's hooligan scarred victory for Wigan - what can we expect today?

This importance if this cup cannot be underestimated for either of these sides.

For City, this is their last hope of silverware, and Roberto Mancini's final avenue of proving that he has the club on the right track following huge investment in the squad.

For Chelsea, or more specifically Benitez, defeat would not be the end of the world - at least there is a Europa League semi-final to look forward to. But there is an obvious determination about Benitez and his desire to add more trophies to his CV - particularly with the fact he will be looking for a new job next month.

There are some truly wonderful players on show today - Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Tevez, Aguero... let's hope they're at their best and this game lives up to expectations.

  • Team news...

For City - there's no doubt that the absence of Silva is a big blow. And there's no Hart either - Pantilimon starts between the sticks. At least Aguero is in the starting XI.

For Chelsea - there is no Terry, Lampard or Cole in the starting line-up. Times are moving on for the Blues.

Just to point out how significant that is - Lampard has played 32 of the 34 semi-finals or finals of the Roman Abramovich era.

  • 1 min: We're off... and just to confirm, no silence for Margaret Thatcher before the match. Incredible atmosphere here.
    4/14/2013 3:01:17 PM
  • 2 min: Tevez is brought down by Mikel in the middle of Chelsea's half. He does love a foul that Mikel.
    4/14/2013 3:02:31 PM
  • 4 min: City with the early probing here at Wembley although Kompany has to have his wits about him when a hopeful ball is played forward to Ba. He deals with it smoothly. Aguero then shoots wide from a tight angle.
    4/14/2013 3:05:08 PM
  • 7 min: Clichy with a fantastic burst through the middle. Mikel takes him down and a quick free-kick leads to a chance. From the resulting corner it's so nearly in after a toe poke from Ageuro . Cech does brilliantly to tip it round the post. City have definitely settled better.
    4/14/2013 3:08:31 PM
  • 11 min: Another solid save from Cech - this time from a Tevez shot at a tight angle. Good work from Barry in the build-up.
    4/14/2013 3:11:36 PM
  • 4/14/2013 3:12:16 PM
  • 12 min: Hazard and Mata try to work things for Chelsea but it's just not clicking right now and City come away with possession.
    4/14/2013 3:13:04 PM
  • 14 min: Mikel plays a long one over the top for Ba but he overdoes it. Looks really isolated up front does Ba. Perhaps he needs Fernando 'super hero mask' Torres to come save the day alongside him.
    4/14/2013 3:14:57 PM
  • 18 min: Zabaleta comes in very strong, and stupidly, on Oscar. He gets away without a booking. Lucky. This match had calmed down a bit - still City seeing all the ball though.
    4/14/2013 3:19:18 PM
  • 21 min: A long ball sees Aguero squeeze between Chelsea's centre-backs and unleash a shot - but Ivanovic does brilliantly to get a block in.
    4/14/2013 3:21:50 PM
  • 23 min: City continue to probe. Barry is urged to shoot by the light blue half of the stadium but opts to lay it off. Eventually Tevez has a crack but it's blocked.
    4/14/2013 3:23:53 PM
  • 25 min: Ba goes down a bit easily under pressure from Toure and the resulting free-kick sees Pantilimon flapping. It comes out to the edge of the box and the shot is drilled into the floor, bouncing over the keeper and is going in. But Kompany was aware of the danger and positioned himself on the line to head away.
    4/14/2013 3:25:47 PM
  • 27 min: Barry collides with Ramires clumsily in the middle of the park and is shown a yellow card - much to the delight of the Chelsea fans.
    4/14/2013 3:26:53 PM
  • 28 min: A free-kick is chipped over to Ba and for a moment it looked like we might see a repeat of his wonder goal against Manchester United in the last round. He can't quite connect though. Chelsea have finally turned up.
    4/14/2013 3:28:53 PM
  • 30 min: Right now it's like watching Millwall fans out on the pitch - everyone's clattering into everyone else. Referee Chris Foy doing well to let things flow.

  • 34 min - GOAL!: Samir Nasri puts City in the lead.
    4/14/2013 3:36:08 PM
  • 37 min: Yaya bursts forward before giving it to Nasri in the box. The Frenchman plays a clumsy one-two with Aguero before smashing into the net from no further than 8 yards out. City take the lead!
    4/14/2013 3:37:34 PM
  • 38 min: Mata nearly brings things level straight away. From the edge of the box he shoots but it curls away from the goal and goes just wide.
    4/14/2013 3:39:22 PM
  • 40 min: How unlucky for City. With the ball bobbling around in the box Milner has time and space in the centre of the penalty box to smash it in. He gives it a proper whack but it hits Aguero and the Argentine forward is given offside. Great chance.

    4/14/2013 3:44:41 PM
  • 45 min: Yaya with a cynical foul on Mikel - rightly booked. 1 minute of added time.
    4/14/2013 3:47:00 PM
  • HT: Chelsea win a dangerous free-kick out on the right hand side put Kompany heads away. City then break with great pace. Cech pushes Milner's cross away and there's Kompany again - who's stormed down the other end of the pitch. But he makes a complete mess of his first time shot. Could have been 2-0. Instead the whistle goes with just a single goal between the sides.
    4/14/2013 3:49:12 PM
  • HT: A good half of football here at Wembley. City started much the brighter of the two sides but failed to take advantage early on. Chelsea grew into the game and saw Oscar's shot cleared off the line by Kompany. But it was City who were to open the scoring - with Nasri the man rifling the ball into the net from close range. A deserved lead overall but there's a long way to go in this game...

  • 46 min: We're off in the second half...
    4/14/2013 4:05:00 PM
  • 47 min: Ramires is booked for a little trip on Milner - he then kicks the ball away in frustration. Foy would have been in his rights to show him a couple of yellows there. He doesn't though.
    4/14/2013 4:06:14 PM
    4/14/2013 4:07:05 PM
  • 50 min: City work the ball around the edge of the box before Barry drifts a ball to the back post. Aguero jumps high, and nods it back across goal. Cech is rooted to the spot and sees it hit the inside of the post and go into the back of the net. How will Chelsea respond?
    4/14/2013 4:08:54 PM

  • 52 min: Chelsea understandably getting a lot of men forward now but City are dealing with the crosses coming in. Surely Torres will be on soon...
    4/14/2013 4:11:34 PM
  • 53 min: City break and it's 3 on 2. But Yaya's choice of pass to Tevez on his right hand side slows the momentum and when the former United player tries to find Aguero, Ivanovic is able to intercept.
    4/14/2013 4:12:40 PM
  • 56 min: City looking to keep the ball whenever they can but they look a real danger on the break. Tevez and Aguero run at the west London club's defence but the former's through ball doesn't kind find his team-mate.
    4/14/2013 4:15:23 PM
  • 58 min: Chelsea living dangerously - Cech way out of his box tries to head it to Cahill and they nearly make a mess of it with Aguero lurking.
