    6/28/2012 6:30:52 PM
  • 40 min: Well. This isn't what we expected. Can Germany find a response?
    6/28/2012 7:27:29 PM
  • 43 min: Italy working it around the pitch with great confidence. Unsurprising considering what's happened here so far.
    6/28/2012 7:29:42 PM
  • 45 + 1 min: Lahm crosses from the left but Buffon is there. It's just not happening for the Germans - there usual fluidity has dried up.
    6/28/2012 7:32:52 PM
  • HT: The half-time whistle goes. Germany 0 Italy 2.
    6/28/2012 7:33:53 PM
  • HT: Incredible half of football. Germany looked the better of the two sides in the early stages but Italy creates chances - and most importantly the opening goal. Balotelli headed in after 19 minutes and after that Italy looked like a team that believed...
    6/28/2012 7:35:45 PM
  • HT: It was the Manchester City striker that scored the second - rifling the ball in from the edge of the box after being set free behind the German defence. Italy then looked in complete control.
    6/28/2012 7:36:47 PM
  • HT: The Germans have been nowhere near their best. The attack has looked static and the fluidity that has become the signature of this side is gone. They'll need to find it in the second half if they are to stand any chance of reaching the final.
    6/28/2012 7:38:10 PM
  • HT: We'll be back shortly for the second half...
    6/28/2012 7:45:25 PM
  • 46 min: We're off again. Reus and Klose are on for Podolski and Gomez. Changes were needed.
    6/28/2012 7:49:57 PM
  • 48 min: Germany work it patiently before the substitute Reus gets into the box. Hit shot is weak though and Buffon is behind.
    6/28/2012 7:52:15 PM
  • 50 min: There was so much talk before this match about how good Germany were. We'll find out now. Much sharper already this half as the ball is laid off to Lahm just inside the box. He shoots but it's over. Good chance.
    6/28/2012 7:54:23 PM
  • 53 min: Italy get forward for the first time this half. The ball nearly finds Balotelli in the box, with the City forward just waiting to bang in his third. It doesn't get there though. Next goal is huge.
    6/28/2012 7:57:13 PM
  • 56 min: Reus works it to Klose in the box but the striker slips. Ozil then does brilliantly to get to the byline, he pulls it back to Khedira but, just a couple of yards out form goal, can't shape to shoot.
    6/28/2012 7:59:44 PM
  • 57 min: Klose surges into the box and it takes a fine tackle from Bonucci to put it behind for a corner. Italy get it away.
    6/28/2012 8:01:09 PM
  • 58 min: Cassano is off for the hero in the last round, former West Ham striker Diamanti.
    6/28/2012 8:02:11 PM
  • 59 min: Boateng lifts it in but just too high for Khedira. Germany look the more likely to score at the moment.
    6/28/2012 8:03:23 PM
  • 61 min: Balotelli goes it alone, working it into the box before shooting but it's across the goal and wide.
    6/28/2012 8:04:35 PM
  • 62 min: Bonucci is booked for a foul on Kroos on the edge of the box. From a dangerous position central to the goal Reus hits it right into the top corner. Buffon tips it over.
    6/28/2012 8:06:19 PM
  • 64 min: Montolivo is off for Thiago Motta. Looks like a straight swap.
    6/28/2012 8:07:58 PM
  • 65 min: Italy look to pass it around in midfield but there's such pressure from the Germans.
    6/28/2012 8:09:30 PM
  • 67 min: Diamanti shoots from near the half-way line. Silly. Balotelli looks furious.
    6/28/2012 8:10:36 PM
  • 68 min: Diamanti nearly for Italy. The ball is weighted into him on the edge of the box as he advances. He hits it first time but it skews wide of the post.
    6/28/2012 8:12:16 PM
  • 69 min: Balotelli has a bit of cramp. Or a desire to time waste. Unclear.
    6/28/2012 8:12:53 PM
  • 71 min: Well, it would seem genuine. There will be no hat-trick for Balotelli as he's off to be replaced by Di Natale.
    6/28/2012 8:14:31 PM
  • 72 min: Final change for Germany. Boateng is off and the winger/striker Muller is on. They've got to go for it.
    6/28/2012 8:16:05 PM
  • 74 min: Italy slowing the play well. The sting in Germany has gone a little as Neuer makes a mistake and is forced to kick it out for a throw in.
    6/28/2012 8:18:00 PM
  • 76 min: Germany throwing a lot of bodies forward. Italy could catch them on the break at any moment. And they nearly have. Marchisio shoots from inside the box and is in loads of space but he drags it wide.
    6/28/2012 8:20:02 PM
  • 78 min: Ozil threads it into Muller and he wins a corner for Germay. Ozil's cross finds Hummels but it's over the bar.
    6/28/2012 8:21:40 PM
  • 79 min: Fine tackle from De Rossi and then lovely skill from Pirlo. Diamanti is in the box but slips at the crucial moment.
    6/28/2012 8:23:19 PM
  • 80 min: The ball breaks to Kroos on the edge of the box. He slams it way over. Germany have to go for broke here.
    6/28/2012 8:24:28 PM
  • 82 min: Diamanti has another go at goal. A bit aimless that. Italy looking more and more dangerous on the break.
    6/28/2012 8:25:49 PM
  • 83 min: Di Natale could have finished it there. He beats the offside trap but is so slow. He finally shoots but it's just wide. Italy then have it in the net but it is offside this time.
    6/28/2012 8:27:22 PM
  • 84 min: De Rossi is booked for a challenge on the half-way line. Germany get it into the box but it's cleared away yet again.
    6/28/2012 8:28:38 PM
  • 85 min: Germany corner from Kroos and Buffon flaps at it but it falls to Pirlo. Fortunate.
    6/28/2012 8:29:28 PM
  • 86 min: Reus nearly in but a last ditch challenge gets it away. Kroos then shoots from range. It's just over.
    6/28/2012 8:30:11 PM
  • 88 min: Italy work it wonderfully to keep possession before Pirlo is fouled and a few more seconds are wasted.
    6/28/2012 8:31:36 PM
  • 88 min: Early cross from Muller but Buffon is there.
    6/28/2012 8:32:17 PM
  • 89 min: Motta is booked for a foul on Schweinsteiger. Germany loft it in but it just won't fall for them.
    6/28/2012 8:33:52 PM
  • 90 min: Hummels on the edge of the six yard box but it's away. Neuer then comes up for a corner but it's behind for a goal kick.
    6/28/2012 8:34:36 PM
  • 90 + 1min: 4 minutes added time to be played.
    6/28/2012 8:35:01 PM
  • 90 + 2 min: Penalty to Germany!
    6/28/2012 8:35:46 PM
  • GOAL!
    6/28/2012 8:36:13 PM
  • 90 + 2 min: Balzaretti handballs it and Ozil buries the penalty.
    6/28/2012 8:36:24 PM
  • 90 + 4 min: Germany on the attack but Hummels gives away a free-kick.
    6/28/2012 8:37:55 PM
  • 90 + 4 min:Seconds to go...
    6/28/2012 8:38:29 PM
  • FT: Full-time. Italy are through to the final!
    6/28/2012 8:39:11 PM
  • FT: So Italy are into the final. The headlines will all be about Super Mario Balotelli - and rightly so. He took his first-half chances brilliantly to put his side in command...
    6/28/2012 8:41:26 PM
  • FT: Germany improved greatly in the second half and really went on the attack but Italy were up to the challenge, defending magnificently, limiting Germany to few clear chances...
    6/28/2012 8:42:30 PM
  • FT: If anything Italy had the better chances that would have put the match out of sight...
    6/28/2012 8:43:12 PM
  • FT: Ozil made it a nervy final couple of minutes when he converted from the spot in injury time but it was too little too late.
    6/28/2012 8:43:57 PM
  • FT: It's been 16 years now since Germany have won a tournament, that's a long time for them and it really looked like they would end that wait prior to the match tonight. They haven't, and it's really going to hurt. They weren't at their best and the players will have to look at themselves for that.
    6/28/2012 8:45:41 PM
  • FT: But on Italy - that was the best they've played this tournament and if they can repeat that performance against Spain they have a real chance of glory.
    6/28/2012 8:46:30 PM
  • FT: They showed they were solid in defence, have the skill in the middle of the park to retain the ball and in Balotelli, have the potential top scorer of the tournament. He's now on three - one more would stand him alone as the best striker of the tournament.
