  • Welcome to our coverage of the third ODI between England and Australia at Edgbaston. Unfortunately the rain is falling and the covers are on, so this match will not be starting on time. However if and when it does get underway it will be interesting to see whether England have altered their side following the heavy defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.

  • So after all the talk of England's unbalanced side, the hosts have opted not to change their team from the heavy defeat in Manchester.

Australia on the other hand have brought in Josh Hazlewood for Fawad Ahmed.

  • The teams are out so here we go...
    9/11/2013 1:22:54 PM
  • WICKET! Carberry run out (McKay) - 1
Oh dear, poor Michael Carberry. Pietersen drops the ball down and runs, trying to keep the strike at the end of the over, but Carberry stays rooted to the spot and is easily run out by McKay.
    9/11/2013 1:25:32 PM
  • England 5/1 (Pietersen 4, Trott 0)
Clint McKay starts things off for Australia and there is a little bit of movement for him but that doesn't bother Kevin Pietersen who skips down the track and clips a four away on the leg side. However he rather spoils things by running out Carberry from the last ball.
    9/11/2013 1:29:37 PM
  • England 9/1 (Pietersen 5, Trott 2)
Mitchell Johnson is certainly pinging them down with some speed and although Trott doesn't exactly look comfortable he survives and gets off the mark with a shot down to fine leg.
    9/11/2013 1:34:38 PM
  • England 16/1 (Pietersen 6, Trott 3)
Pietersen survives a big LBW appeal (quite rightly not given) but then England get a real bonus as McKay fires one very wide of off stump which beats the keeper and the slips and runs away for four.
    9/11/2013 1:38:54 PM
  • England 20/1 (Pietersen 6, Trott 6)
Mitchell Johnson loves a wide or two and sure enough one delivery is fired down the leg side. However it's mostly good stuff from the left-armer and England just add 3 runs.
    9/11/2013 1:42:28 PM
  • England 25/1 (Pietersen 6, Trott 11)
McKay is not as pacy as his opening partner and consequently England are just able to work him around the field for five runs in the over.

  • WICKET! Pietersen c Bailey b Johnson - 6
Why was Mitchell Johnson not playing in the Ashes? He beats Pietersen for pace and the England man can only chip and easy catch up to George Bailey at square leg. Big wicket for Australia.
    9/11/2013 1:48:48 PM
  • England 27/2 (Trott 12, Root 1)
Both England openers are gone now, I wonder if Carberry and Pietersen will be having a cosy chat in the changing rooms.
    9/11/2013 1:52:56 PM
  •  REVIEW! Trott given out LBW - he reviews
    9/11/2013 1:58:01 PM
  • NOT OUT! The ball was pitching outside leg stump. Good review from Trott who survives by the skin of his teeth.

  • Carberry is run out for 1
    by Charles Reynolds

    9/11/2013 2:02:26 PM
  • England 33/2 (Trott 15, Root 4)
Johnson continues to bowl well here, he nearly has Trott and England are under some real pressure.
    9/11/2013 2:03:26 PM
  • England 35/2 (Trott 16, Root 5)
Clint McKay continues and England are not able to get him away, just two from the over.
    9/11/2013 2:07:04 PM
  • REVIEW! Trott not given LBW but Australia review.
    9/11/2013 2:08:48 PM
  • NOT OUT! It was just clipping the bails according to Hawkeye so it stays with the umpire's call.
    9/11/2013 2:09:52 PM
  • England 43/2 (Trott 24, Root 5)
Johnson still troubling Trott, nearly getting him LBW but the Warwickshire man does pick up two boundaries, clipping aerially off his pads for four both times.

    9/11/2013 2:14:49 PM
  • England 48/2 (Trott 24, Root 10)
First over for Josh Hazlewood in this series and Root has his first boundary with a classy straight drive punched along the floor down the ground.
    9/11/2013 2:17:34 PM
  • England 51/2 (Trott 26, Root 11)
Australia replace one left-armer with another as Faulkner comes on and keeps up the pressure. Just three from the over.
    9/11/2013 2:21:57 PM

  • Trott picks up some runs
    by Charles Reynolds

    9/11/2013 2:22:52 PM
  • England 52/2 (Trott 26, Root 12)
Hazlewood continues and England just pick up a single as rain starts to fall...
    9/11/2013 2:25:21 PM
  • WICKET! Root c and b Voges - 12
Oh no Joe. That's a tame way to go, Root just chips a return catch to part-time spinner Voges and England are in trouble again.
    9/11/2013 2:25:53 PM

  • is it just me or has Carberry got a bit of a belly for an international sportsman?GnomeSep 11, 2013 at 3:27 PM
Well he's not quite in the Mark Cosgrove category but he is perhaps a bit 'stocky' - then again he very quick around the field so it doesn't seem to affect him.
    9/11/2013 2:30:53 PM
  • England 58/3 (Trott 28, Morgan 4)
Clarke comes into the attack as Australia try to get some overs in before the rain comes (to ensure the game continues for as long as possible). Four runs from the over.
    9/11/2013 2:32:59 PM
Well it's been threatening but now it has arrived. Think this could stay for a while.
