  • Fenerbahce v Arsenal Full-Time: 0-3 (Gibbs, Ramsey, Giroud)
    • Kieran Gibbs give Arsenal a deserved lead; Aaron Ramsey doubles the lead with a powerful effort
    • Olivier Giroud scores a penalty after Theo Walcott is fouled by Michal Kadlec
    • Arsenal will take a 3-0 lead back to the Emirates for next week's second leg

    8/21/2013 12:10:21 PM
  • Arsenal celebrate Kieran Gibbs' opener

    8/21/2013 8:13:29 PM
  •  70 mins: Emenike shows us what he can he nearly hits the corner flag with a long range shot. Not his finest there. But Sow gets another chance as he turns Sagna and hits it on the spin, but it's onto the roof of the net. He's getting closer though.

    8/21/2013 8:14:44 PM
  • 73 mins: We've just settled down here again, with both keepers getting time on the ball as wayward long balls are sent over. As I type, there's another from Emenike to Szczesny...
    8/21/2013 8:17:01 PM
  • 74 mins: By the way, that was Ramsey's second goal against Fenerbahce, having scored in 2008 in the final minute as a blossoming young 17-year-old. Hold on, Demirel has given it away to Walcott, and he runs towards the near post before lashing it over.
    8/21/2013 8:18:18 PM
  • 75 mins: Meireles picks up the ball on the right of the box and firs across goal, with Sow just unable to get onto it. Szczesny goes to fetch the ball, and rather strangely is booked for time-wasting... PENALTY TO ARSENAL!!
    8/21/2013 8:19:34 PM
  • 76 mins: Well that was unexpected. An inch-perfect ball was sent over to Walcott who controlled it in the air, and Kadlec bundled over the winger from behind and the referee blows for a penalty...
    8/21/2013 8:20:47 PM
  • 77 mins: GIROUD SCORES!
    8/21/2013 8:21:00 PM
  • 77 mins: Giroud calmly steps up and sends Demirel the wrong way as he fires the ball to the top left corner. That should be job done for Wenger's side, and my-oh-my how he'll be relieved.
    8/21/2013 8:22:09 PM
  • 80 mins: Kadlec was booked for his foul on Walcott by the way. The England man is starting to grow in this match, having a long range shot fumbled but saved by Demirel. Giroud is heading off to be replaced by Lukas Podolski.
    8/21/2013 8:25:07 PM
  • 81 mins: Raul Meireles is also replaced by Alper Potuk, and the home fans appear unhappy with the decision. Either that, or they're booing the midfielder, who has been below-par.
    8/21/2013 8:26:23 PM
  • 83 mins: Brilliant save by Szczesny, as Kadlec unleashes a swiveling shot when he gets up-field. The rebound just falls out of reach of everyone in the box and the danger passes.
    8/21/2013 8:27:43 PM
  • 85 mins: The ball comes in from Gonul and Emenike is free in the box, but his header goes over. A little dispute between Mertesacker and Sagna over who should've been picking him up - either way, it should've been one of them.
    8/21/2013 8:28:59 PM
  • 87 mins: Monreal comes on to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a back injury, replacing Theo Walcott, who has looked lively tonight and probably unlucky not to have scored.
    8/21/2013 8:30:57 PM
  • 88 mins: Jenkinson sends in a low cross in front of goal and Yobo nearly slices it into his own net. It's out for a corner, but Cazorla and Podolski are happy to just hold onto the ball.
    8/21/2013 8:32:00 PM
  • 89 mins: Monreal finds himself with the ball on the edge of the area, and his pass inside to podolski is a good one, but the German can't take it and he crumbles to the ground knowing that was a chance gone begging.
    8/21/2013 8:33:08 PM
  • 90 mins: Three minutes of added time, and the Arsenal defence are caught napping when Emenike fires a thunderous shot at Szczesny. The Polish international stands up well to palm it out for a corner, which he then claims untouched.
    8/21/2013 8:34:23 PM
  • Arsenal celebrate Olivier Giroud's penalty

    8/21/2013 8:36:27 PM
  • 90+3 mins:  Jenkinson has a crack at goal but it's pushed over, and that's it. Job done for Arsenal, and they take a rather delightful 3-0 lead back to the Emirates. Nearly a smile on the face of Arsene Wenger. Nearly, that is...
    8/21/2013 8:38:04 PM
  • The Gunners won't get many more comfortable victories than that. Goals from Gibbs, Ramsey and Giroud give them the win, and it'll at least take some of the pressure of the club after a difficult week,
    8/21/2013 8:39:54 PM
  • Wenger will no doubt have to field more questions about who he'll sign in the coming week and a half, but at least he can now say they are favourites to reach the Champions League group stages. Maybe Mr Suarez will have yet another change of heart? Who knows. At least the second leg now looks a formality with Fenerbahce needing three goals just to take the tie to extra time.
    8/21/2013 8:41:41 PM
  • Interestingly, that was Arsenal's biggest away win in Europe since, well, the same match five years ago when the Gunners won 5-2.
    8/21/2013 8:42:31 PM
  • Theo Walcott: "I felt like we dominated the tempo of the game, in the centre of the park, and that the goals would come. We scored three great goals and its a great result to go back to the Emirates with on Tuesday night."
    8/21/2013 8:46:40 PM
  • James Olley's view of tonight's match in Istanbul:

    8/21/2013 8:47:50 PM
  • Aaron Ramsey rightly named man-of-match, and he is really starting to come of age this season after a tremendous pre-season, Theo Walcott also stood out today, but the defence was rarely tested and it'll be interesting to see how Mertesacker and Sagna - who are expected to start at the back - cope on Saturday against Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent when they face Fulham.
    8/21/2013 8:51:59 PM
  • Theo Walcott is brought down for a penalty

    8/21/2013 8:54:13 PM
