    12/10/2013 7:42:34 PM
  • Fascinating stuff from Manchester City's Twitter account.
    12/10/2013 7:44:03 PM
  • 3 mins: Making a rare start, the left-back Buttner gets forward to cross but the move eventually comes to nothing. Promising start for United
    12/10/2013 7:49:19 PM
  • GOAL! Bayern Munich 1 Manchester City 0 Thomas Muller completes a fine Bayern move with a neat finish past Hart. Far from the start City wanted. Could be a long night at the Allianz Arena.
    12/10/2013 7:53:26 PM
  • GOAL! Bayern Munich 2 Manchester City 0: What was that about a long night? Gotze scores from close range after the ball is fumbled into his path from the corner. Winning by a two-goal margin looks an impossible task now for City...
    12/10/2013 8:01:19 PM
  • 15 mins: Chances at both ends at Old Trafford. First Alex Teixeira's shot from the left side of the area beats De Gea, but it does not beat the post and narrowly goes wide. Then at the other end, Januzaj, the shining light of United's season, powers in a shot from the outside of the box, but it goes straight at goalkeeper Pyatov.
    12/10/2013 8:06:40 PM
  • 20 mins: United retain possession in the middle but the Ukrainians beginning to look comfortable at Old Trafford, and dangerous on the counter-attack.
    12/10/2013 8:10:26 PM
  • Should United lose tonight it will be the first time since 1962 they lose three successive home matches, and their start so far has not pleased the Twitter faithful.

    12/10/2013 8:12:36 PM
  • 28 mins: What a run from Taison, who has not been banned from the UK like his namesake. He skips through the United defence with ease but shoots straight at De Gea.
    12/10/2013 8:15:51 PM
  • GOAL! Bayern Munich 2 Manchester City 1 While over in Germany, David Silva pulls one back for City. Pouncing in the six-yard box to nudge the ball in. Game on.
    12/10/2013 8:17:48 PM
  • 33 mins: Chance for Manchester United. Rooney, who has been in such great form this season, curls in a free-kick from 25 yards but it goes just wide. Then straight away at the other end, Ferdinand sloppily loses possession to Alex Teixeira who puts in a low cross but the shot is blocked. Shakhtar looking sharper in every department so far.
    12/10/2013 8:20:46 PM
  • 36 mins: What a chance for United. Giggs lofts the ball over the top to Young, who wins possession and then puts a delightful lob over 'keeper Pyatov. It goes close, but the ball bounces wide. Best chance of the match.
    12/10/2013 8:24:30 PM
  • 40 mins: Nice bit of link up play between Kagawa and Rooney, but instead of pulling the trigger Rooney takes an extra touch and the move breaks down. Great run by Giggs to start the move, just like his days as a flying winger.
    12/10/2013 8:30:09 PM
  • 42 mins: Another great chance for United. Young is slide through by Rooney, he takes a touch..and then skies the ball over. Not a confident shot at all from the England international.
    12/10/2013 8:32:10 PM
  • HT: That was the final action from a half which United looked like the away team, finding it difficult at times to deal with the pressure from Shakhtar.
    12/10/2013 8:42:33 PM
  • 47 mins: A great chance for Shakhtar to start the half. The ball skims across the area from a corner into the path of Rakitskiy, and his left-footed effort beats De Gea but hits the post and goes out. Nervous start for United.
    12/10/2013 8:51:07 PM
  • Spot the ball: Galatasaray 0 Juventus 0 has been called off because of heavy snowfall after 31 minutes

    12/10/2013 8:52:45 PM
  • 55 mins: United struggling to get going, with Shakhtar dictating the pace. But the game has just got more vital for the Ukrainians. Bayer Leverkusen have taken the lead against Real Sociedad and have leapfrogged them into second place.
    12/10/2013 8:59:23 PM
  • 58 mins: A sublime effort from Rooney. He receives the ball 25 yards out from goal, looks up, and tries to loft it over Pyatov but it just misses the target. Shades of his first ever Premier League goal against Seaman there..
    12/10/2013 9:02:22 PM
  • GOAL! Bayern Munich 2 Manchester City 2! Alexander Kolarov scores from the spot to equalise. They need two more goals to finish top..
    12/10/2013 9:05:38 PM
  • GOAL! Bayern Munich 2 Manchester City 3! Make that one goal. Could this be an early Christmas miracle for City! Bayern can't deal with the cross and Milner cuts in from the left with an unstoppable shot past Neuer.
    12/10/2013 9:08:17 PM
  • GOAL! Manchester United 1 Shakhtar Donetsk 0! And United go in front too. The corner goes in, a powerful half-volley from Jones, and Old Trafford erupts, relief all around the place. It was the club's first home goal in a total of 310 minutes. Moyes visibly grinning from ear to ear.
    12/10/2013 9:12:06 PM
  • Jones celebrates his goal. Could prove crucial to United's season that one...

    12/10/2013 9:15:53 PM
  • Two unlikely match-winners it seems

    12/10/2013 9:18:37 PM
  • 78 mins: Rakitskiy thrashes one over from 30 yards. What a lift that goal has given United, Shakhtar resorting to desperate measures now.
    12/10/2013 9:21:01 PM
  • Last five minutes! United looking comfortable in getting the one point they require to top Group A, while Manchester City, in an enthralling contest in Germany, need one more goal to win by a two-goal margin and top Group D and, miraculously, they nearly just did. Negredo's shot is saved by the legs of Neuer.
    12/10/2013 9:27:27 PM

  • 12/10/2013 9:29:08 PM
  • 90 mins: Substitute Van Persie is put through on goal, he dinks the ball over Pyatov, but his effort hits the side netting.
    12/10/2013 9:33:39 PM
  • FT: What an important victory that could prove to be for Moyes's United. They certainly did not have it their own way, but it turned into a comfortable night in the end. Their run of three matches without a win is over, and Moyes will hope his team can push on from here.
    12/10/2013 9:35:42 PM
  • FT: And it's also over at the Allianz Arena. Manchester City gallantly coming up short of achieving the win they needed by two goals to top the group. It will, however, put them in good stead ahead of the visit of league leaders Arsenal on Saturday.
