  • 33 mins: Chance for Manchester United. Rooney, who has been in such great form this season, curls in a free-kick from 25 yards but it goes just wide. Then straight away at the other end, Ferdinand sloppily loses possession to Alex Teixeira who puts in a low cross but the shot is blocked. Shakhtar looking sharper in every department so far.

  • 36 mins: What a chance for United. Giggs lofts the ball over the top to Young, who wins possession and then puts a delightful lob over 'keeper Pyatov. It goes close, but the ball bounces wide. Best chance of the match.

  • 40 mins: Nice bit of link up play between Kagawa and Rooney, but instead of pulling the trigger Rooney takes an extra touch and the move breaks down. Great run by Giggs to start the move, just like his days as a flying winger.

  • 42 mins: Another great chance for United. Young is slide through by Rooney, he takes a touch..and then skies the ball over. Not a confident shot at all from the England international.
