  • I think the referee made a bad call, but Real Madrid deserved to win just as much as United did. It was a glamorous game by two major teams, and as always was brilliant to watch
    3/5/2013 9:40:42 PM
  • Without doubt the worst referee I have seen in a long time. How can you give a red card for that but not a penalty for the foul by Sergio Ramos at the end?
    3/5/2013 9:41:17 PM
  • Wow everyones blaming ferguson!! This wasn't his fault... everything was going well and he picked a brilliant team but the ref screwed them over
    3/5/2013 9:41:26 PM
  • That sending off spoilt a great tie...but...from the reverse angle, Nani drew his foot out after the challenge, and then thrust it, hard, back in. He knows he did, that's why he lay on the floor for 30 seconds. It was a really poor decision, even in the heat of 'battle' for a professional sportsman. He let down his team.
    3/5/2013 9:42:57 PM
  • Personally, I think Fergie got the team selection right regarding leaving rooney on the bench. We played well in the first half. The only decision that cost utd the game was the sending off. That was a horrific decision by the referee. Yellow card, yes. But red card no way! Appauling decision!
    3/5/2013 9:44:56 PM
  • I think the ref made correct decisions apart from disallowing madrids first goal which should ahve been allowed. the sending off was accurate according to the rules... it was a hand ball ... he can't do anything else ...its the rules!
    3/5/2013 9:45:10 PM
  • Referee of 15 years here... It was a bit harsh (the sending off) but he did come in very careless and reckless and studs first 2 determining factors in any sending off decision. That is a sending off in any game. A harsh fate indeed, but that is the law of the game.
    3/5/2013 9:45:36 PM
  • Still a great feat for the Welshman Ryan Giggs.....1000th game.....amazing!
    3/5/2013 9:45:47 PM
  • Former Red Roy Keane, himself the most peaceful of players, says
It's on his own hands. He deserved to get sent off.
    3/5/2013 9:46:22 PM
  • Any how that was awesome super game for the two brilliant team. United is out of Champion League so sad but we must blame Fergie for making such wrong decision in sub
    3/5/2013 9:47:43 PM
  • Bitter united fans you only scored via a lucky own goal, leaving rooney and valencia out cost u the game, funny how when rooney came on you had 15 minutes of attacking football!!
    3/5/2013 9:47:51 PM
  • FT Do you agree with Roy Keane on the Nani red card? Leave a comment and tell us how you feel on the subject...
    3/5/2013 9:49:04 PM
  • An incredible night at Old Trafford and a load of talking points following Manchester United's exit from the Champions League. Keep your comments coming and we'll post the best ones.
    3/5/2013 9:49:49 PM
  • As a referee myself, I completely agree. An incredibly reckless challenge. If the referee had given a yellow, Real would have been the team mobbing him for completely endangering Arbeloa without discipline.
    3/5/2013 9:51:01 PM
  • the red card was not allowed, infact yellow card was the right decision,so the refree decides bad decision.
    3/5/2013 9:52:14 PM
  • Whether nani intended or not, studs up challenge is reckless and dangerous play. As a experienced player as he is he should have known better...
    3/5/2013 9:52:41 PM
  • Alex was right to Leave rooney out the first half. Rooney Never shines on the big stages. Brave decision by the big man. Giggs was excellent
    3/5/2013 9:56:46 PM
  • Jose pure class in interview said the best team lost!!!!!!!fergie not doing on interview proves he knows he got his team wrong leaving out rooney!!
    3/5/2013 9:57:07 PM
  • The special one himself seemed unhappy with Nani send-off. It looks controv due to the nature of the match but the Nani-off decission was right
    3/5/2013 9:57:18 PM
  • There is no doubt what the big talking point from this game will be - the decision to send off Nani. But what do you think? Did the referee get it right? Take part in our poll here...
    3/5/2013 9:57:26 PM
  • at the end of it all...GOOD GAME !
    3/5/2013 10:00:13 PM
  • how was it a challenge? he was watching the ball and saw the player at the last second - no way a red card
    3/5/2013 10:00:19 PM
  • I normally only watch internationals. I am undecided about the red card. What is the distinction between red and yellow cards? If the opinion is that it was unacceptably dangerous then surely that means no player can kick the ball above shoulder height unless he is sure he is on his own
    3/5/2013 10:00:31 PM
  • nani's foul was a red card. It did spoil the match as a contest but then again worse decisions have been given like the RVP sending of against Barca for kicking the ball after the whistle had gone... Its part of the game
    3/5/2013 10:00:50 PM
  • You're kidding right..... he wasnt going for the challenge at all, he didnt know that there was anyone behind him..... he has gone to control the ball on the top of his foot, it was a high boot, might have been a yellow card and no kazim it wasn't a good game. it was a game marred by a sad decision, did you hear waht mourinho said, we did not deserve to win, the best team lost.
    3/5/2013 10:02:12 PM
  • Unfortunately another example of officials who probably never played the game at any sort of competitive level. There was no intent in the challenge. He was looking in the direction that the ball travelling. A brilliant game destroyed by a poor decision. Later in the game Welbeck was clothes-lined just outside the box, nothing given. Make you think!!??
    3/5/2013 10:02:34 PM
  • I have just ruined a potentially great match. Man United 1 - 2 Me!
    3/5/2013 10:06:19 PM
  • Keep your comments coming - we want to hear what you think about Manchester United's defeat to Real Madrid and the talking points from the match. Was Fergie right to leave out Rooney? Did the ref call it right on Nani? Would Real Madrid have made a comeback with the referee's decision?
    3/5/2013 10:09:33 PM
  • the most fantastic game and incredible night, but the referee destroyed it.
    3/5/2013 10:09:40 PM
  • Did Roy Keane ever play football? His 'knowledgeable' comments reminded me of the chap who wandered into the news studio a couple of years ago.
    3/5/2013 10:09:49 PM
  • Everyone keeps talking as if it was a challenge. It wasn't. He was taking down the ball, not trying to beat someone to it, or trying to take it off them. The defender ran right into his feet. Sounds stupid but there it is.
    3/5/2013 10:13:57 PM
  • Boo hoo united fans now you know how it feels after all the wrong penalty decisions you have had over the years at old trafford that made u win games from terrible refs, you finally get a bit of karma and u blame the ref, fergie leaving rooney out cost u the game!!
    3/5/2013 10:14:05 PM
  • dunno what happens to refs in real's matches...we saw it in real vs barca and now in real vs manu :/
    3/5/2013 10:14:11 PM
  • Do you think the referee Cuneyt Cakir was right to send off Nani? You can let us know by taking part in our poll...
    3/5/2013 10:14:58 PM
  • I am a big loser! I regret my decission. I apologize to all the Man U fans!
    3/5/2013 10:22:38 PM
  • High challenge, could have been nothing, yellow or red. What Got Nani sent off was staying down for two minutes after kicking someone else. It is the sort of behaviour you expect from a three year old child. Man U have benefitted from many controversial decisions over the years, making their outrage even more pathetic.
    3/5/2013 10:22:45 PM
  • @Giroud get over it you big baby, whatever decisions they have got over the years, what matters is that the referee was a massive disgrace to the sport and i believe if the opposite team manager thinks his team deserved to lose then there really is no point in arguing.....
    3/5/2013 10:29:10 PM
  • intentions intentions!!!! a player has to know what is around him, how can a referee know the players' intentions, or the angle of kicking, or the direction of players' gazes, what is done is done, you have to be careful with kickings or punchings
    3/5/2013 10:29:24 PM
  • Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho speaking to Sky Sports:
My feeling is that Manchester United were playing very well, were very compact and aggressive in a good way.
They were very tactically well organised and the match was very difficult for us. I had the feeling Luka Modric changed the game as he brought qualities we did not have before.
I doubt that 11 v 11 we win the match. Today I am frustrated as we played so well against Barcelona and today, I was waiting for more.
I know Manchester United are giants, not just physically but mentally. I know they have a manager who can motivate then, but I was waiting for us to play in a different way.
    3/5/2013 10:32:04 PM
  • Alex Ferguson is reportedly too angry to speak to the media and has also told his players not to speak to the press as well.
    3/5/2013 10:33:27 PM
  • great game spoilt by a harsh red card. yellow would have been sufficient. sir alex picked the right team. would have won but for that decision. as for rooney great player but does go missing at the very highest level. as for roy keane lost his legendary status completely for me 2nite. no wonder he cant manage a chamionship team! u think he played for man city. get him off the tv great player but no personality and not liked rekon lee dixon and gareth southgate were cringing listening to his thoughts!
    3/5/2013 10:40:20 PM
  • Do you think the referee Cuneyt Cakir was right to send off Nani? You can let us know by taking part in our poll...
    3/5/2013 10:40:37 PM
  • Kin Jenzin, with all due respect watch a competitive match for the number of times players will lift their feet to the point where studs can be seen. If you send players for doing this we will have a lot of games finishing five a side. It was an inexperienced decision from a referee overawed by the occasion.
    3/5/2013 10:44:31 PM
  • Hope the ref gets a red card himself! No common sense. Even the neutral supports want to see 11vs11. If serious foul play with intent took place on the pitch then fair enough. But for that tonight! Even mourinio and ronaldo happy with the win no doubt but bitter sweet for them it seems. Even they would liked to have won the game with 22 players on the pitch! But know themselves they were lucky tonight because of that one decision.
