  • Team news time...and Gareth Bale will start!

The £86m Welshman has recovered from his bout of the flu to start against Bayern.

Bale, who replaces Isco in the team’s only change, came on as a late substitute in the first leg last week and sat out Real’s 4-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday.

The Spanish giants lead by one goal following last Wednesday’s match in Spain and Cristiano Ronaldo and Karem Benzema complete the front three in an attacking line-up from boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Bayern manager Pep Guardiola makes just the one change as well with Thomas Muller coming in for Rafinha meaning Phillip Lahm will go to full back.

Bayern: Neuer; Lahm (C), Dante, Boateng, Alaba; Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Ribéry, Robben, Müller; Mandzukić

Subs: Raeder, Van Buyten, Martínez, Rafinha, Pizarro, Götze, Hojbjerg

Real: Casillas; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrão; Alonso, Modric, Di María; Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema

Subs: Diego López, Varane, Marcelo, Casemiro, Morata, Isco, Illarra

  • The Spanish media have dubbed  Real's attacking triumvirate of Benzema, Cristiano (Ronaldo) and Bale the BBC...and it is the C who could end the evening with a new Champions League record:

The Portuguese forward has scored 14 goals in the competition this season, currently the equal-most in a single season alongside his arch-nemesis Lionel Messi, who scored 14 for Barcelona in 2011/12.

One more goal for Real tonight, who take a 1-0 advantage into the second-leg at the Allianz Arena, will see Ronaldo become the highest-ever goalscorer in a Champions League season.

  • The view on how tonight's match will go, from Gareth Bale himself:

The match will be tight and there will be little between the teams. We hope to do our job, but it will be a fantastic game and we are 100 per cent ready.

I prefer to play offensively, but we will have to know how to defend.

  • 4/29/2014 6:48:04 PM
  • 1 min: And Real get us under way..
    4/29/2014 6:49:33 PM
  • 3 min:  Real already looking menacing, getting forward inside the first minute. Ronaldo passing to Di Maria, who fires it across goal to Benzema but Neuer holds well. Promising for Ancelotti's side.
    4/29/2014 6:52:34 PM
  • 5 min: Ronaldo tries to play the deadly pass again. He hits a through ball to Benzema but the Frenchman is called offside. The first-leg may have been all Bayern, but this one has started all Real...
    4/29/2014 6:55:17 PM
  • 8 min: Bayern now trying to get a foothold in the game. Robben gets into the box but Modric wins back possession.
    4/29/2014 6:57:54 PM
  • 10 min: Chance for Bale! What spectacular goal that would have been... Coentrao lofts in a hopeful long ball, forcing goalkeeper Neuer to charge forward and head the ball from outside of his area into the path of the £86m Welshman, who takes the effort on the half volley 30 yards out but can only hit the ball over with the goal at his mercy.
    4/29/2014 7:01:14 PM
What an absolutely crucial goal! Bayern now need to score (at least) three to progress. Modric fires in a corner and there's Sergio Ramos, he of the many red cards, to meet the cross unopposed to head in. One foot in the final for Ancelotti...
    4/29/2014 7:04:07 PM
Game, set and match? Ramos scores for the second time in four minutes. A Di Maria free-kick is headed on by Pepe and met by Ramos. Bayern now have a Bavarian mountain to climb...
    4/29/2014 7:08:33 PM
  • 22 min: It does need to be reminded, however. That Ramos is one booking away from missing the final, and this is the man who has had 34 suspensions as a Real player...
    4/29/2014 7:14:22 PM
  • 27 min: Bayern not giving up the tie yet, however. The rampaging left-back Alaba gets into space in the box but his cross it not met. Then Robben gets an effort away after a trademark cut back and shot, but it goes wide.
    4/29/2014 7:18:05 PM

  • 4/29/2014 7:18:24 PM
  • The game will only become more stretched with Bayern needing four goals...

    4/29/2014 7:19:18 PM
  • Bayern have scored at least four goals on 13 different occasions this season, of course, so all hope is not lost yet.
    4/29/2014 7:21:02 PM

  • 4/29/2014 7:22:03 PM
What a delightful counter-attack! Bale into space passes to Ronaldo who finishes the move with aplomb. A new record for the Portuguese winger, that's his 15th Champions League goal this season, that's more than his arch-nemisis Lionel Messi ever scored in a Champions League season...
    4/29/2014 7:23:02 PM
  • 38 min: Ronaldo nearly made it four! What a crazy, crazy match we are witnessing. Neuer  charges out to head away and just like Bale he goes for the spectacular from long range but misses the target. Guardiola looks shell-shocked on the bench.
    4/29/2014 7:29:13 PM
  • 40 min: Xabi Alonso dives in on Schweinsteiger and receives a yellow card for his troubles. He didn't even need to charge in. The Spaniard, who memorably won the competition with Liverpool in 2005, is now out of the final too.
    4/29/2014 7:31:53 PM
  • The new dance craze sweeping Europe... the "Ronaldo 15"

    4/29/2014 7:33:31 PM
  • HT: On the edge of half-time Ronaldo smashes in a free-kick but it goes over. Referee Nicola Rizzoli then calls a halt to proceedings and who could have predicted that? Bayern look relieved to get a 15-minute breather from the Real juggernaut. Unstoppable. A master-class in counter-attacking football.

    4/29/2014 7:48:55 PM
  • Or did he get it from this...
    4/29/2014 7:49:06 PM
  • 46 min: Bayern get the second half under way, surely they can't get anything out of this.
    4/29/2014 7:51:52 PM
  • 48 min: A settled start to the second period. Real happy to keep possession. There will be no 72% possession to Bayern in this one.
    4/29/2014 7:54:49 PM
  • 50 min: Ramos passes the ball into the path of Di Maria, but the Argentine is narrowly called offside. How much longer will Ancelotti keep the loose cannon Ramos on the pitch with him being only a yellow away from suspension.
    4/29/2014 7:57:59 PM
  • Ouch!

    4/29/2014 7:59:01 PM
  • 55 min: Kroos looks to send the ball across to Muller but he can't connect with the pass. Bayern's players looking demoralised out there. They have been hit by a steam train.
    4/29/2014 8:02:40 PM
  • 56 min: Robben does his favourite move again, and to this day no one can stop him. He cuts it back, takes a shot from the edge of the area but his effort curls wide.
    4/29/2014 8:05:13 PM
  • 60 min: Chance for Bayern! Ribery powers at goal for the first real time in the match and has a shot from inside the area but Casillas makes the save, and holds on to the ball too.
    4/29/2014 8:07:31 PM
  • 64 min: Chance for Real! The free-kick is lofted in to Coentrao, and from close range he fires in a shot but Neuer gets down well to make the save. Nearly the fifth..
    4/29/2014 8:12:05 PM
  • 70 min: Bayern attacking in vain, and they make a couple of changes. Gotze on for Ribery, and Pizarro, known to many for his less than prolific spell with Chelsea, replaces Muller.
    4/29/2014 8:18:05 PM
  • 74 min: Finally he has been saved. Ramos, he of 34 suspensions with Real Madrid and two goals tonight, is substituted for Varane and will play in the final. Thankfully he didn't mange to get booked while he was leaving the pitch, that would have ruled him out of Lisbon.
    4/29/2014 8:22:53 PM
  • 79 min: Now Benzema has been replaced by Isco. Just like BBC 3, the BBC is no more...only Bale and Cristiano (Ronaldo) remain, but what a terrorising shift they have put in.
    4/29/2014 8:27:04 PM
  • 84 min: Di Maria is the next one off. Bayern still blunted. Either Ancelotti v Mourinho in the final or it's an all-Madrid affair..
    4/29/2014 8:32:44 PM
  • 88 min: Ronaldo's down. Free-kick 25 yards out. Surely he'll take it...
    4/29/2014 8:34:39 PM
Take it? Of course he does. A genius of a free-kick from Ronaldo. Instead of lifting it over the wall, he cheekily hits it under the wall. A touch of class.
    4/29/2014 8:35:18 PM
  • FT: It's all over! Bayern have been put out of their misery. What a performance we have witnessed from Real. They looked unstoppable. Ronaldo and Ramos both helped themselves to two each in Guardiola's biggest ever defeat as manager. Mourinho or Simeone will not be looking forward to facing this team in the final in Lisbon on 24 May...
