Everton vs Arsenal, plus reaction after wins for Chelsea, West Ham and Swansea - LIVE!

Aston Villa v Newcastle, Chelsea v Leicester, Everton v Arsenal

Welcome to The Independent's coverages of all today's action in the Premier League with Marc Williams including Aston Villa vs Newcastle, Chelsea vs Leicester and Everton vs Arsenal.

    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

54 min: Real lack of pace and tempo in this game, all a bit dull if I'm honest. There's some quality on the bench, though, and it won't be long until the managers decide to dip into their reserves if it stays like this.
    8/23/2014 12:57:32 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

56 min: That's more like it! Daryl Janmaat, Newcastle's Dutch summer signing, finally gets the crowd going, the away end that is. The full-back cuts in from the right and let's fly at goal from all of 25 yards. He's effort flashes just wide of were the post meets the crossbar. Guzan would have been beaten had that been a inch lower and an inch to the right.
    8/23/2014 12:59:57 PM
As we have the time, still goalless at Villa Park but you knew that, have a look at some transfer news this lunch time. Is Torres on his way?

    8/23/2014 1:01:51 PM
Elsewhere, there's friction in Spain and it's all about an Angel!

    8/23/2014 1:02:43 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

63 min: New Colombian signing, Carlos Sanchez, is on for Villa and greeted by a huge roar from the home faithful. He gets right into the action to help win them a corner and Krul does well to get rid of the dangerous ball in.
    8/23/2014 1:07:06 PM
    Chelsea v Leicester

Team news: We've got the teams from Stamford Bridge.

    8/23/2014 1:10:26 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

69 min: Philippe Senderos goes into the book after a nasty foul and is joined by Andreas Weimann soon after. For the away side, Siem de Jong is on for Vurnon Anita and the away fans like that sub. Into the final 20 minutes we go..
    8/23/2014 1:12:46 PM
    Crystal Palace v West Ham

Team news: Roll up, roll up, get your team news from Selhurst Park

    8/23/2014 1:16:05 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

74 min: All action from Alan Hutton today and the Scotsman wins the home side a free-kick in a good position. Before that is taken, Paul Lambert brings on Darren Bent, can he provide the spark? Well not from that free-kick, that's for sure - the ball flies out off Senderos' head.

    Love the magic spray!

    8/23/2014 1:19:09 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

77 min: Alan Pardew makes his second sub of the afternoon too and brings on Gutierrez for Riviere. Villa are yet to hit the target today but Darren Bent comes close as he flicks an effort just over, he was offside anyway.
    8/23/2014 1:21:09 PM
    Southampton v West Brom

Team news: Here's the line-ups from St Mary's, enjoy!

Southampton: Forster, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Bertrand, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Davis, Pelle

Subs: Davis, Gardos, Long, Taider, Cork, Hooiveld, Isgrove

West Brom: Foster, Dawson, Olsson, Pocognoli, Wisdom, Dorrans, Gardner, Brunt, Mulumbu, Anichebe, Berahino

Subs: Baird, Yacob, Ideye, Myhill, Davidson, McAuley, Sessegnon
    8/23/2014 1:24:09 PM
    Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

83 min: It does look like we're heading for a goalless draw but Cabella tries his best to change that but his effort goes wide. Carlos Sanchez is welcomed to England by Mike Dean with a yellow card. All the stats would suggest Newcastle deserve a win here, can they find it?

Daryl Janmaat has been good this afternoon

    8/23/2014 1:27:54 PM
    Swansea v Burnley

Team news: Who's playing at the Liberty this afternoon? Here's who!

Swansea: Fabianski, Rangel, Taylor, Ki, Williams, Amat, Dyer, Shelvey, Bony, Sigurdsson, Routledge

Subs: Gomis, Tiendalli, Montero, Termmel, Bartley, Richards, Sheehan

Burnley: Heaten, Trippier, Mee, Marney, Duff, Shackell, Arfield, Jones, Jutkiewicz, Ings, Taylor

Subs: Wallace, Kightly, Sordell, Reid, Gilks, Ward, Barnes
    8/23/2014 1:31:14 PM
    Swansea 0 Burnley 0

3 min: Swansea get the best of the early chances in the Premier League and it's come from Wilfried Bony. The Ivorian finds space in the box but his header is blocked away by Jason Shackell for a corner. Burnley up against it already.
    8/23/2014 2:05:49 PM
    Chelsea 0 Leicester 0

3 min: Cesc Fabregas, the man who was so good on his league debut for Chelsea last week, swings in a tricky corner which the Foxes do well to get away, nervy scenes for the both newly promoted teams this afternoon!
    8/23/2014 2:08:04 PM
Crystal Palace 0 West Ham 0

8 min: Ohhh, close one for Palace! Marouane Chamakh, winner of the worse barnet in the Prem, goes close for the home side. He peels back to the far post and heads back across goal but Joey O'Brien does well to clear.

Can Keith Millen ease some of the pressure on Palace this afternoon?

    8/23/2014 2:11:53 PM
    Swansea 0 Burnley 0

11 min: Burnley come close! Danny Ings pinches the ball off a sleepy Jonjo Shelvey but his effort goes just over. Ings, whose goals were so vital in Burnley's promotion, goes close again seconds later but Lukasz Fabianski gets down well to save.
    8/23/2014 2:14:48 PM
Ten minutes gone then and still no goal in the Premier League to speak of. Who will blink first and give us our opening goal this Saturday?
    8/23/2014 2:15:43 PM
    Southampton 0 West Brom 0

12 min: Graziano Pelle wastes the first half-chance of the game as his header sails over. Sorry sports fans, it's a dull one so far down on the south coast.
    8/23/2014 2:18:30 PM
Crystal Palace 0 West Ham 0

17 min: They may not have a boss but who needs one when you have fans like Palace do, superb noise and atmosphere inside Selhurst. The Hammers try to quiet the crowd with a string of quick fire attempts from Zarate and Downing but nothing too threatening so far.

Great support from the Palace faithful
    8/23/2014 2:21:41 PM
    Chelsea 0 Leicester 0

42 min: Chelsea showing why they are favourites for the title here and have just gone up by a gear or two. Eden Hazard pulls the ball back to Diego Costa on the edge but his shot is deflected over. Good move from the Blues though and Leicester will want, and deserve, to get to half time at nil all.
    8/23/2014 2:44:49 PM
    Swansea 1 Burnley 0

44 min: Swansea's signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson was a master stroke and the man from Iceland lets fly from 25-yards on the volley. What a goal that would have been! Seriously, what a goal! Burnley hang on though, just.
    8/23/2014 2:47:11 PM
HALF TIME! Swansea 1 Burnley 0
    8/23/2014 2:47:32 PM
HALF TIME! Chelsea 0 Leicester 0
    8/23/2014 2:47:47 PM
Crystal Palace 0 West Ham 2

45 min: It is all West Ham now and they could have had another but Ricardo Vaz Te sees his effort saved. The Hammer's centre back pair of James Tomkins and Winston Reid have both gone into the book.

    8/23/2014 2:49:47 PM
HALF TIME! Southampton 0 West Brom 0
    8/23/2014 2:50:10 PM
HALF TIME! Crystal Palace 0 West Ham 2
    8/23/2014 2:50:51 PM
All the Premier League games go in for their 15 minute break then. Second half action coming very soon!
    8/23/2014 2:51:29 PM
Some stats for you all at halftime.

    8/23/2014 3:00:21 PM
Time to get going once again across the Premier League! West Ham and Swansea have leads going into the second half but it's goalless in the other two games.

Let's hope for some more goals and let's be honest, some more quality in the second 45s, it's been a bit slow today.
    8/23/2014 3:01:13 PM
Crystal Palace fans would love Tony Pulis to return but that's not going to happening. Have a read...

    8/23/2014 3:03:45 PM
FULL TIME! Crystal Palace 1 West Ham 3

    8/23/2014 4:01:45 PM

    Everton v Arsenal

Tim Howard has been a great servant to the Premier League over the years and today he faces up against Arsneal.

Tim Rich spoke with the American stopper. This is a good one, enjoy!

“It was heartbreaking to lose but I was oddly happy for him,” says Howard, reflecting on the strange aftermath of the United States’ 2-1 defeat to Belgium. “He is not arrogant, he is a good person. We talked about our family not about the game.

“Your mind is racing – he was looking forward and I was looking back. We spoke a little bit about what was next. He said he had had some conversations with Roberto Martinez [Everton’s manager, to make his loan from Chelsea permanent] so I was encouraged by that.

Have a look at the team news and manager decisions ahead of our late game.

    8/23/2014 4:15:57 PM
    Everton v Arsenal

Did you know, Arsenal's 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend was their 100th Premier League victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Today they have the chance for another milestone. If they beat Everton today, it will be their 100th win over the Toffees!

Goodison Park is looking lovely today!
    8/23/2014 4:21:40 PM
Kick off in our final game of today is under 10 minutes away!
    8/23/2014 4:22:41 PM
    Everton v Arsenal

Team news: The players are making their way out onto the pitch and it's time for more action! Everton drew 2-2 with Leicester on the opening day while Arsenal needed a last minute winner to see off Crystal Palace.

This is how they line-up this evening...

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, Naismith, Pienaar, Lukaku.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Monreal, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez.

    8/23/2014 4:26:59 PM
    The Germans are back...
    8/23/2014 4:29:00 PM
    Everton 0 Arsenal 0

0 min: Everton, in blue shirts and white shorts, kick off. Arsenal in their change strip of yellow and blue. Game on!
    8/23/2014 4:32:00 PM
    Everton 0 Arsenal 0

2 min: Calum Chambers lets Steven Pienaar know who he'll be up against today and the South African takes a couple of seconds longer than usual to get back up to his feet. Steady start from both teams with Everton having an early corner but making nothing of it.
    8/23/2014 4:34:39 PM
    Everton 0 Arsenal 0

5 min: Remember last season? Arsenal fans certainly do. A Romelu Lukaku inspired Everton romped to a 3-0 victory and left the travelling Gunners' fans with nightmares. Can the big Belgian produce the same quality today?
    8/23/2014 4:37:40 PM
    Everton 0 Arsenal 0

9 min: Steven Pienaar is in the wars again here and it looks like he'll have to go off. The South African, who played well last weekend, hasn't been able to shake off that early knee in the back from Chambers and he will have to leave us very early on. Leon Osman is a pretty decent replacement, mind you.

    Pienaar feels the pain

    8/23/2014 4:41:33 PM
10 minutes gone at Goodison Park and not much action so far.

Today's match reports are in, go and read how your team got on in the words of our writers!

    8/23/2014 4:43:27 PM
    Everton 0 Arsenal 0

14 min: Some lovely passing football on show from both sides, particularly Arsenal but nothing in the way of goal mouth action yet. Kevin Mirallas, Everton's other Belgian, races down the left wing but is stopped brilliantly by Calum Chambers. The boy from Southampton looks the part in an Arsenal shirt!
