  • Yesterday's play saw the momentum tip both ways...

Slowly, carefully, skilfully the craft of batting was restored yesterday. Just as it looked that the two teams competing in this Ashes series were finally ready to disintegrate in a flurry of impatience, stupidity and indiscipline Australia demonstrated that it need not be so.

  • It was all about Rogers and Watson for Australia yesterday...

Australia are no doubt congratulating themselves on the success of Shane Watson's move to No 6. The nation's great enigma responded to his change of duty with the bright-eyed relish of a man eager to accept his inheritance after years in the waiting room. Think Prince Charles in creams.

  • Australia 222/5 (Rogers 101, Haddin 12)
Bresnan starts things off and he starts well, England appeal strongly for a catch at slip but Aleem Dar quite rightly rules it came off Rogers pad not bat.
    8/11/2013 10:03:11 AM
  • REVIEW! Haddin given LBW to Swann. He reviews.
    8/11/2013 10:04:02 AM
  • WICKET! Haddin LBW Swann - 13
Poor review, Haddin was plumb. Trapped on the back foot in front of middle stump by Swann and England have the early breakthrough. Game on.
    8/11/2013 10:05:25 AM
  • Australia 224/6 (Rogers 102, Siddle 0)
Great start from Swann, England needed that early strike. This is turning into a fascinating game.
    8/11/2013 10:08:29 AM
  • Australia 225/6 (Rogers 103, Siddle 0)
Bresnan continues and there's just a single to Rogers - England do well to get Siddle on strike, but the bowler survives the over.
    8/11/2013 10:12:39 AM
  • Australia 231/6 (Rogers 109, Siddle 0)
Bit of luck for Rogers who gets a thick edge to Swann's first ball and it runs away for four. The duel between these two continues...
    8/11/2013 10:14:43 AM
  • REVIEW! Rogers not given out for a bat pad catch but England review.
    8/11/2013 10:19:41 AM
  • WICKET! Rogers c Prior b Swann - 110
What a catch that is from Prior. He runs round from behind the stumps to snatch one that looped up off Rogers pad having just brushed his glove. Hotspot showing it's worth there...
    8/11/2013 10:20:56 AM
  • Australia 236/7 (Siddle 1, Harris 3)
This has been an excellent morning for England, Australia losing both their set batsmen. New ball is now due as well.
    8/11/2013 10:25:55 AM
  • NEW BALL TAKEN
    8/11/2013 10:26:06 AM
  • Australia 240/7 (Siddle 1, Harris 7)
England take the new ball but Australia don't appear particularly bothered, Harris driving down the ground for four to put his side in the lead.
    8/11/2013 10:30:08 AM
  • Australia 243/7 (Siddle 4, Harris 7)
It's unsurprisingly England's star of yesterday, Stuart Broad, who takes the new ball from the other end but he can't make another strike and Australia add three more to the total. No sign of any swing really so far for the bowlers.
    8/11/2013 10:36:44 AM
  • Australia 244/7 (Siddle 5, Harris 7)
No swing for Anderson here, Siddle picks up a single to take Australia's lead to six. Anderson hasn't really looked threatening in this game.
    8/11/2013 10:40:48 AM

  • Prior takes a great catch to remove Rogers
by Charles Reynolds on Aug 11, 2013 at 10:42 AM

    8/11/2013 10:43:37 AM
  • Australia 244/7 (Siddle 5, Harris 7)
Broad continues to be England's main threat, he has Siddle playing and missing in that over. It's a maiden.
    8/11/2013 10:44:39 AM
  • WICKET! Siddle c Cook b Harris - 5
Finally a wicket for Anderson! He gets Siddle to nibble at one outside his off stump and Cook takes a good low catch at first slip.
    8/11/2013 10:46:41 AM
  • Australia 245/8 (Harris 8, Lyon 0)
So Anderson eventually joins the party, that was a much better over. Then again he should look good bowling at tailenders with the new ball.
    8/11/2013 10:50:56 AM
  • Australia 253/8 (Harris 15, Lyon 0)
A rare poor over from Broad, he overpitches badly to Harris and is crunched through the covers for four. Australia take 8 from the over and lead by 15.
    8/11/2013 10:57:30 AM
  • WICKET! Lyon LBW Anderson - 4
Lyon walks across his stumps and is rapped on the front pad as he misses the ball. That was pretty plumb. Anderson has another victim.
    8/11/2013 11:00:44 AM
  • Australia 258/9 (Harris 16, Bird 0)
Lyon perhaps a little unlucky there, Hawkeye showed the ball sliding down leg. Then again he didn't review so he can't have much of a complaint. Broad now searching for the final wicket to claim his five-fer.
    8/11/2013 11:06:25 AM
  • Australia 270/9 (Harris 28, Bird 0)
Poor over from Broad, he gets his lengths all wrong and Harris happily swats him for three consecutive fours. Useful runs these for Australia.
    8/11/2013 11:10:02 AM

  • Anderson celebrates the wicket of Nathan Lyon
by Charles Reynolds on Aug 11, 2013 at 11:12 AM

    8/11/2013 11:13:08 AM
  • Australia 270/9 (Harris 28, Bird 0)
Good over from Anderson, big LBW appeal against Bird but he survives. It's a maiden.
    8/11/2013 11:14:08 AM
  • REVIEW! Harris struck in front, appeal for LBW - not given.
    8/11/2013 11:16:04 AM
  • WICKET! Harris LBW Broad - 28
That is as plumb as they come. Five wickets for Broad.
    8/11/2013 11:16:45 AM
  • AUSTRALIA 270 ALL OUT (LEAD BY 32)
    8/11/2013 11:18:12 AM

  • 8/11/2013 11:22:02 AM
  • Here come the players...
    8/11/2013 11:25:37 AM
  • England 0/0 (Cook 0, Root 0)
Ryan 'Rhino' Harris kicks things off for Australia and it's a maiden although like in the first innings Cook barely had to play at a single delivery.
    8/11/2013 11:30:46 AM
  • England 5/0 (Cook 4, Root 1)
That's a super shot from Cook, he just leans into one that Bird overpitches and steers it through the covers for four. Root got him on strike with a quickly taken single.
    8/11/2013 11:34:48 AM
  • England 10/0 (Cook 8, Root 2)
That's another four for Cook. Harris trying to make him play at the ball but he just drifts too straight and is clipped away easily for a boundary.
    8/11/2013 11:38:45 AM
  • England 10/0 (Cook 8, Root 2)
Good over from Bird. He draws an edge from Root but the batsman is fortunate to see it drop just short of the slips. A maiden.
    8/11/2013 11:42:23 AM
  • England 17/0 (Cook 15, Root 2)
Cook looking a little less tied down than he was in the first innings, perhaps that knock did him some good. Bird overpitches and he is punished by the left-hander who punches down the ground for four.
    8/11/2013 11:51:08 AM
  • WICKET! Root b Harris - 2
Oh dear. That was a fantastic ball from Harris, he just hits the top of Root's off stump. Too good for the right-hander.
    8/11/2013 11:51:49 AM
  • England 21/1 (Cook 15, Trott 4)
Fantastic over from Harris, he cleans up Root with a beauty and then nearly gets Trott first ball, the new man getting an edge on one down leg side that is too fine for the leg slip put specifically for that shot.
    8/11/2013 11:57:21 AM
  • England 24/1 (Cook 17, Trott 5)
Slightly nervously scampered single there from Trott and Cook pushes down the ground for a couple off Harris' over but England go into lunch without further damage. They still trail by 8.
    8/11/2013 12:04:16 PM
  • LUNCH
    8/11/2013 12:04:22 PM
  • England 28/1 (Cook 17, Trott 9)
Jackson Bird starts things off for Oz after lunch and Trott twice works him for a couple of runs. England almost level now.
    8/11/2013 12:49:24 PM

  • Root is bowled by Harris for 2
by Charles Reynolds on Aug 11, 2013 at 12:50 PM

    8/11/2013 12:51:42 PM
  • England 36/1 (Cook 20, Trott 13)
That's too straight from Harris to Trott and he'll put those away all day. He clips the ball off his pads for four to take England into the lead. Eight from the over.
    8/11/2013 12:53:04 PM
  • England 39/1 (Cook 20, Trott 16)
Australia persisting with the tactic of bowling straight to Trott, but to no avail so far. Not that he's looked totally secure. Interesting battle this.
    8/11/2013 12:56:57 PM
  • WICKET! Cook c Haddin b Harris - 22
Loose shot from Cook and he's paid the price. He flashes at a wide one from Harris and just gets a snick through to the keeper. Enter KP.
