  • DAY IN BRIEF:

    • ENGLAND CLOSE ON 294/7 (NEED 34 TO AVOID FOLLOW ON)
    • Ian Bell out for 60
    • Kevin Pietersen out for 113
    • Australia 527/7 declared
    TEAMS:

ENGLAND - Cook, Root, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Bairstow, Prior, Bresnan, Broad, Swann, Anderson

AUSTRALIA - Watson, Rogers, Khawaja, Clarke, Smith, Warner, Haddin, Siddle, Starc, Harris, Lyon
    8/3/2013 8:50:03 AM
  • England 271/5 (Pietersen 106, Bairstow 22)
Shane Watson bowls and it's a maiden. Think I've written that before...
    8/3/2013 4:21:58 PM
  • England 271/5 (Pietersen 106, Bairstow 22)
It's a maiden from Starc but it's not a great over to be honest. He does carve Bairstow almost in two with one ball that comes back sharply but the rest are too wide and the batsman doesn't have to play at them.
    8/3/2013 4:28:11 PM
  • WICKET! Bairstow c Watson b Starc - 22
Good ball from Starc gets Bairstow playing forward and he edges it low to Shane Watson at first slip.

    8/3/2013 4:31:44 PM
  • England 277/6 (Pietersen 112, Prior 0)
Starc makes the breakthrough for Australia. His bowling had looked a little wayward and he wasn't making England's batsmen play enough but that was a great delivery to get Bairstow. A wicket maiden.

  • Mitchell Starc celebrates the wicket of Bairstow

    8/3/2013 4:39:29 PM
  • England 277/6 (Pietersen 112, Prior 0)
Siddle comes into the attack and it's a maiden. Pietersen is playing in a very restrained manner here, perhaps realising his importance to England's innings.
    8/3/2013 4:42:24 PM
  • England 279/6 (Pietersen 113, Prior 1)
Prior off the mark with a push through extra cover and then he gets back on strike as England take a leg bye. Starc has him flashing at one outside his off stump which he is fortunate not to get an edge on - Prior not looking in great touch here.
    8/3/2013 4:47:22 PM
  • REVIEW! Pietersen given out LBW but it's reviewed.
    8/3/2013 4:51:45 PM
  • WICKET! Pietersen LBW Starc - 113
That's out. Swung back into his pads and Pietersen is trapped in front.
    8/3/2013 4:53:08 PM
  • England 284/7 (Prior 1, Broad 4)
Big breakthrough for Australia, the dangerman is gone and although Broad gets off the mark with a four, England still need 44 to avoid the follow on.
    8/3/2013 4:57:57 PM
  • England 288/7 (Prior 5, Broad 4)
Siddle continues from the Statham End and Prior picks up a four, playing the ball through the slips.

40 TO AVOID THE FOLLOW ON
    8/3/2013 5:03:43 PM
  • England 292/7 (Prior 5, Broad 8)
Broad picks up four with a clip fine on the leg side that races away to the boundary below us, hitting something with a healthy thud.

36 TO AVOID THE FOLLOW ON
    8/3/2013 5:07:02 PM
  • England 292/7 (Prior 5, Broad 8)
Siddle and the newly introduced Nathan Lyon keep England under pressure with a couple of maidens. England still need 36 to avoid the follow on.
    8/3/2013 5:15:16 PM

  • Pietersen walks off having made 113
by Charles Reynolds on Aug 3, 2013 at 5:17 PM

    8/3/2013 5:17:52 PM
  • England 294/7 (Prior 6, Broad 9)
Just a couple each from Harris' over and then Lyon sends down a maiden to Broad. He had the left-hander reaching at a couple outside his off stump but Broad survives.

ENGLAND NEED 34 TO AVOID THE FOLLOW ON
    8/3/2013 5:23:43 PM
  • England 294/7 (Prior 6, Broad 9)
Another maiden from Harris, helped by an excellent diving stop by Haddin claiming one wide down the leg side. He's had a good day behind the stumps.
    8/3/2013 5:26:21 PM
  • England 294/7 (Prior 6, Broad 9)
That is another maiden, this time from Lyon and that will probably be his lot for the day. Probably time for just one more over today.

ENGLAND NEED 34 TO AVOID THE FOLLOW ON
    8/3/2013 5:28:31 PM
  • England 294/7 (Prior 6, Broad 9)
That's yet another maiden to finish things off and that's that for today. England still need 34 to avoid the follow on.
    8/3/2013 5:31:59 PM
  • CLOSE OF PLAY
    8/3/2013 5:32:07 PM
  • That's all from me today, hope you can join me again tomorrow for what should be a thrilling fourth day's play.
