  • Hello and thanks for joining me. We're roughly 40 minutes from kick-off and the teams are in, so without further ado let's get down to business...

  • The heavens have absolutely opened here at Wembley, sending everyone but the two sets of goalkeepers scrambling for cover. The rest of the City squad have emerged for their warm-up, but it's going to a wet one for those out on the pitch today.
    8/10/2014 1:23:54 PM
  • Tomas Rosicky is the longest serving player in the Arsenal squad today:
As we sit and talk by the side of the Emirates pitch, Tomas Rosicky spots Freddie Ljungberg – a guest at the club’s members’ day – and jumps up to greet him. “Freddie, I am the only one here who remembers you!” he announces to his former team-mate, a joke that is a nod towards Rosicky’s seniority at Arsenal these days.

  • Just 10 minutes until kick-off, and the teams are ready in the tunnel. The rain has blown over, so we might actually get dry match. Ladies and gentleman, football is back!
    8/10/2014 1:50:49 PM
  • Here come the teams, led by new Gunners captain Mikel Arteta and Vincent Kompany's stand-in Yaya Toure.
    8/10/2014 1:53:07 PM
  • Honorable guests today include Arsenal great Pat Rice, who gives Arteta a warm embrace. Time for the national anthem.
    8/10/2014 1:55:06 PM
  • Pre-game ceremonies out the way, it's showtime. Arsenal will be attacking from right-to-left, meaning they will face their own fans in the second half, and so too City. A big chance for both teams to put down a marker here, and it's an opportunity for the Gunners to put last season's failures against the big-four in the past.
    8/10/2014 1:57:22 PM
  • A massive boo goes up for Samir Nasri from the Arsenal end. Old habits die hard, eh.
    8/10/2014 1:58:15 PM
  • 8/10/2014 1:59:35 PM
  • 1 mins: Manchester City get the match underway!
    8/10/2014 2:00:02 PM
  • 1 mins: Fernando gives an early free-kick away in the centre of the field. Arsenal are enjoying more possession, and Alexis breaks free and looks for Wilshere. The England man can't beat Boyata though.
    8/10/2014 2:02:09 PM
  • 4 mins: Ramsey does well to beat Clichy on the right, and the former Arsenal man looks to have a busy afternoon ahead on his weaker flank. Ramsey works into the box, but Navas cuts out his pass and relieves the danger.
    8/10/2014 2:04:43 PM
  • Despite a thunderstorm just before kick-off, the sun is out here at Wembley. This guy is making the most of it.

    8/10/2014 2:04:44 PM
  • 6 mins: Nasri gets a haunting reception down in the Arsenal corner, and Sanogo heads clear the cross. Navas then brings down Cazorla when Arsenal were looking to break and referee Michael Oliver awards a free-kick near halfway.
    8/10/2014 2:06:20 PM
  • 7 mins: Alexis releases Debuchy on the right, and the right-back gets o the byline before Fernando. His cross is a good one, but Sanogo is just out-muscled by Nastasic. A good chance and a good start for the Gunners, while City are looking a little nervy.
    8/10/2014 2:08:32 PM
  • 10 mins: Blue skies overhead and the sun shows his face. The British weather as unpredictable as ever. On the field, Arsenal have certainly settled into this game and Sanchez makes a break down the right once again, but there's no one in the box to convert his cross.
    8/10/2014 2:10:54 PM
  • 12 mins: Sanogo wins a corner after his shot is deflected off Nastasic, and Cazorla will deliver the ball among a chorus of boos from the City faithful. Koscielny rises well but it's headed away by Toure, and Jovetic sprints after the ball to no available.
    8/10/2014 2:13:05 PM
  • 14 mins: Clichy crosses the ball into the box and the knock down finds Nasri at the edge of the area, but his shot is blocked by Debuchy. It Appeared to hit his arm, but it would've been very harsh to give a penalty as both arms were by his side. Fernando looks to fire in the rebound from distance but it's blocked by Sanchez.
    8/10/2014 2:14:43 PM
  • 16 mins: Clichy beats Gibbs to the high ball from his own throw-in, and the Frenchman takes a nasty boot for his efforts. Gibbs is quickly apologetic, and referee Oliver deems it a coming together and nothing more, though City do have the free-kick.
    8/10/2014 2:16:22 PM
  • Arsenal fans aren't a forgiving bunch...but City are giving as good as they get:

    8/10/2014 2:17:37 PM
  • 18 mins: A neat one-two between Gibbs and Wilshere sees the defenderbreak into the box. Clichy does well to stay with him, and blocks the shot when it comes. Arsenal can't use the corner as the short ball comes to nothing.
    8/10/2014 2:18:30 PM
  • Ramsey takes down Clichy. If a former player was to be taken out, the the Manchester City defender probably wouldn't be the number one choice of Arsenal fans.

    8/10/2014 2:19:18 PM
  • 21 mins: GOAL TO ARSENAL!
    8/10/2014 2:21:08 PM
  • 21 mins: The breakthrough comes for the Gunners and you have to say they deserve it. Sanogo draws a rash tackle out of Boyata, and the ball falls to Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard takes the ball onto his left foot before firing back across Caballero to open the scoring. 1-0 to Arsenal.
    8/10/2014 2:22:47 PM
  • A lot of love for Cazorla after the Spaniard puts Arsenal ahead...

    1 of 3

    8/10/2014 2:24:17 PM
  • 24 mins: Sanogo was in an offside position as Cazorla fired home, but he didn't interfere with play and the officils appeared happy with the goal. Another immediate chance for Arsenal to extend their lead as Cazorla puts Sanogo away on the middle, but his shot from the edge of the area is off target.
    8/10/2014 2:24:59 PM
  • Arsenal fans in heaven right now...

    8/10/2014 2:27:00 PM
  • Cazorla scores the opening goal of the game.

    8/10/2014 2:29:22 PM
  • 29 mins: Sanchez and Cazorla are really linking up here. The pair combine, with the former seeing his cross deflected to the latter. Cazorla hits it first time, but Boyata throws himself in front of the ball to give away a corner.
    8/10/2014 2:29:46 PM
  • 30 mins: Cazorla delivers the corner and Sanogo rises well, but Caballero saves his effort on the line as Arsenal fans were preparing to burst into celebration.
    8/10/2014 2:30:32 PM
  • 32 mins: Cazorla is down and holding his ankle, but Clichy just caught him as the pair contested a header and there was nothing in it. The Spaniard is back up and comes back onto the pitch after putting his boot on.
    8/10/2014 2:32:09 PM
  • 35 mins: Alexis is hauled down by Kolarov, but Arsenal refuse the chance to loft a ball into the box as they take it quickly. They lose possession, and Arteta brings down Dzeko rather cynically as City looked to break. A stark warning for the Arsenal skipper.
    8/10/2014 2:36:40 PM
  • 38 mins: Chances for both sides, as firstly Arsenal have Ramsey losing possession on the edge of the box, before Nasri just misses a cross from Jovetic. the biggest cheer of the day goes up as the vanishing spray comes out for the first time in English football. Remember the day folks, the spray has made its debut.
    8/10/2014 2:39:09 PM
  • The biggest debut of the new season...

    8/10/2014 2:40:31 PM
  • 40 mins: The Gunners fans are having a blast as they've spotted Ian Wright down in the corner of their end. Dzeko is threatening down the left though and he manages to work down to the byline. His pass to Jovetic really should produce a goal but the Arsenal defence scrabmle back.
    8/10/2014 2:41:34 PM
  • 42 mins: GOAL FOR ARSENAL!
    8/10/2014 2:41:44 PM
  • 42 mins: Arsenal recover quickly and Sanchez releases Sanogo from the right flank. The striker holds the ball up and in comes a flying Aaron Ramsey, who takes one touch before firing in from close range. City left standing still, and they've got a lot to do if they're to get back in the game.
    8/10/2014 2:43:12 PM
  • 44 mins: A corner for City after a string tackle from Debuchy, but it's headed clear by Chambers at the front. Alexis is off again, but his dazzling feet aren't enough to pick a pass to Cazorla as City recover.
    8/10/2014 2:44:22 PM
  • Arsenal's second goalscorer Aaron Ramsey becomes the talk of Twitter...

    8/10/2014 2:45:12 PM
  • 45 mins: Chambers intercepts the ball in his own box and there's a one-out ball straight to Alexis. the Chilean plays it to Sanogo, who in turn releases Alexis. It's one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Caballero wins the battle as he rushes out and slides to the ball before Alexis can beat him to it.
    8/10/2014 2:46:27 PM
  • Half-time: Michael Oliver blows the whistle and he brings a very good half for the Gunners to a close, as they take a 2-0 lead into the changing rooms.
    8/10/2014 2:47:11 PM
  • Half-time: It's no more than Arsenal deserve, and City are yet to find a foothold in the game and find themselves 2-0 down as a result. Alexis and Cazorla have looked mightily impressive, as has Chambers at the back. For City, they need to address the defence as Boyata and Nastasic are getting the round-around, while Clichy looks far from comfortable on the right.
    8/10/2014 2:49:39 PM
  • Ramsey celebrates after putting the Gunners well in control here at Wembley.
