  • Arsenal v Manchester City

Our first game up today is certainly a biggun! Just over a month ago, Arsenal brushed aside City in the Community Shield to claim the first piece of 'silverware' of the season but today is sure to be a whole different kettle of fish.

Will ex-Man United man Danny Welbeck start for his new club? Is Eliaquim Mangala set to start along side Vincent Kompany at the heart of City's defence? And could Frank Lampard even make an appearance? Plenty to ponder.

    Let's take a closer look into today's massive match-up…

Will Danny Welbeck be a hit at the Emirates?

  • Arsenal v Manchester City

Team news: Wow! What a team news that is, today is full of action and the game hasn't even started yet!

Danny Welbeck does make his debut after his winning brace for England earlier this week. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil also start and Aaron Ramsey has overcome the knock he picked up while on duty for Wales.

Frank Lampard, yes, ex-Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, starts in sky blue, how strange is that? Ex-Gunners duo Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri are on the City bench today.

Here's your match preview for this titan-clash this Saturday lunchtime!

  • Jack Wilshere starts for Arsenal today

    Arsenal v Manchester City

Many of us have woken up today after a heavy Friday night, brushing the sleep out of our eyes, stretching out aching backs and reaching for the kettle or toaster in order to get the day going.

But, for the Arsenal and Man City players it is time to wake-up and focus on the job at hand and what a big job they have today.

Does the early kick-off effect players? Arsene Wenger has ignored any such problems and has told his men to get stuck in today.

Would you rather kick off at 3pm or at 12.45? It is two hours and 15 minutes. That does not produce a miracle in your physical recovery. Sometimes, maybe, on our side, we go a bit too much overboard on that.

    9/13/2014 11:25:40 AM
  • Could City have done with a buy like Welbeck?

    City's striking problems?

It's strange to think that Manchester City have any strength in depth problems whatsoever.

But, while Arsenal were busy on deadline day securing their long awaited centre-forward, Danny Welbeck being the man on a £16million deal, City were unusually quiet on the big money day.

Now that Stefan Jovetic is injured and Alvaro Negredo has moved out on-loan, City are down to just two out and out strikers, is that enough to fight on all four fronts?

“I didn’t choose Alvaro as the man to be cut,” said Pellegrini. “Alvaro wanted to go so I allowed him to because he couldn’t play in the Champions League and he was injured. It was a good decision for him and for the club to go back to Spain.

“It would have been very difficult for Alvaro to play until the end of October and we couldn’t change a player in our Champions League squad until after December so in this squad [for the group stages] he would be out.”

    9/13/2014 11:32:46 AM
  • Do Arsenal still need a Khedira character?

    Tim Sherwood column

Everyone knew that Arsene Wenger had to buy an extra striker in the summer and he did that, hallelujah!

But everyone also thought that the Gunners could do with a proper, no nonsense holding midfielder. They have the ageing duo of Arteta and Flamini, the walking injury that is Diaby and a Jack Wilshere that is neither defensive or attacking at the moment.

Could Sami Khedira have been the final piece in the Arsenal puzzle?

Maybe another player in that position would have been good but Tim Sherwood believes that the lack of signing will be a huge boost to Wenger's men.

Arsène Wenger’s decision not to buy a defensive holding midfielder will be regarded inside Arsenal as a vote of confidence in his existing players, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby  (who played for the club’s Under-21s on Thursday night) as well as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.

Sami Khedira was available at the end of August, and while his injury record might have put Arsenal off, the mood is that Wenger decided he was happy with what he had in that department.

  • Arsenal v Manchester City

It is that time again, kick-off time in our first game of today!

This is a massive game, make no doubt about it. Two Premier League heavy weights going head-to-head and it is just seconds away!

Get that coffee on, that bacon sandwich laden with brown sauce and get ready for some top-notch top flight action.
    9/13/2014 11:43:49 AM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

0 min: Arsenal in their classic red and white, the Champions all sky blue. Game on!
    9/13/2014 11:46:27 AM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

3 min: There's a rather Roberto Mancini whiff about this City team, they do not want to lose this one. Both sides are just feeling each other out early on, just like a proper heavy weight boxing match.

    9/13/2014 11:50:01 AM
  • Remember we have six games coming up live at 3pm today all before Liverpool v Aston Villa rounds up our Saturday football fix. All the team news to come.
    9/13/2014 11:51:02 AM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

6 min: We have had our first effort of the game and no surprise, it comes from Aaron Ramsey. The surprise is that the Welshman's effort goes miles into the crowd. How Wenger will be relieved to have him fit today.

Alexis Sanchez takes a crack seconds later and Joe Hart does well to hold onto his dipping effort.
    9/13/2014 11:53:03 AM
  • HIT THE POST! Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

12 min: Danny Welbeck, confident from his England goals on Monday night, goes so close to opening his Arsenal account within 12 minutes. It's all the Gunners so far and Welbeck does really well to break free but his wonderful dink effort hits the post with Joe Hart completely beaten! So close for the former United man.

    Hands on heads all round

    9/13/2014 11:58:41 AM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

15 min: Good play from Pablo Zabaleta and Fernandinho nearly pick the Arsenal lock at the back but the Brazilian's through ball rolls out for a goal-kick. City are yet to have a meaningful effort on goal just yet but they are starting to look threatening. James Milner gets to know Mathieu Debuchy a little better with a crunching tackle.
    9/13/2014 12:04:14 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

20 min: Vincent Kompany up-ends Aaron Ramsey for an Arsenal free-kick in a good position. Sanchez floats it in but right into Joe Hart's grateful hands. The Gunners had loaded the box there too.

Frank Lampard picks up a yellow card, not the first of his career by any means but the first of his City career, at a boy, Frank.

Twins? F1's Lewis Hamilton and Arsenal's Theo Walcott

    9/13/2014 12:08:15 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 0

23 min: We have a chorus of boos ringing around the Emirates stadium, not for the referee or anything like that, but for a certain ex-Gunner, Samir Nasri, who has decided to have a little warm-up on the sidelines.

James Milner, who made his 50th England cap on Monday (yes 50th!), has a crack for City, their first of the game. It sails over but a decent effort.
    9/13/2014 12:12:25 PM
  • GOAL!!! Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1 - Sergio Aguero!

27 min: We have our opening goal of this Saturday and slightly against the run of play, the Champions take the lead! Jesus Navas is to thank for it too. Gut-busting pace from the Spaniard down the right wing leaves all the Arsenal players reeling and he finds Aguero in the centre with a perfect low cross. The Argentine makes absolutely no mistake from six yards and slots his side into the lead.

    He liked it!

    9/13/2014 12:13:15 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

30 min: Brilliant move again from City and it was nearly two in just over two minutes. This time it's David Silva who draws a good stop from Szczesny. The Champions seem like that goal has really settled them down and now it is all the away side. Over to you Danny, your new side needs a goal.
    9/13/2014 12:19:38 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

35 min: Alexis Sanchez picks up the ball from the left and drives in field. He is fouled by two or three City men and wins a good free-kick. The Chilean picks himself up to take it but it curls and floats harmlessly over. Poor from the new boy.

    9/13/2014 12:23:04 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

38 min: Arsenal are being restricted to long range efforts and pop-shots now after what was a really good start from the home team. Not quite happening for the Gunner at the moment… Commentators curse? They do have a free-kick.
    9/13/2014 12:25:37 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

40 min: They've had a few free-kicks from the same sort of position and this time the ball break to Mesut Ozil on the edge. The German can't keep his effort down and it sails over Hart's crossbar. Sums up Arsenal's first half really.
    9/13/2014 12:27:53 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

43 min: We're nearing half time then as the home team win yet another free-kick, starting to pile up now. No card for James Milner though but that was a close one, last chance for him. This time, the set-piece is cleared by Martin Demichelis after a bit of pin-ball inside the box. One minute of injury-time to come.
    9/13/2014 12:31:26 PM
  • HALF TIME! Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1
    9/13/2014 12:31:54 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

HT: That'll do it and after Arsenal's good start to the game, they have it a lot to do to get back into this one against a very stubborn City side.

How frustrating is that Danny Welbeck miss now? Sergio Aguero took his goal with much more conviction and, of course, found the net and that is the business we are in, goals!

    9/13/2014 12:36:08 PM
  • We'll have all the team news from each of the six games at 3pm today coming up as soon as they come in into us. Busy, busy weekend!

Franks Lampard has gone off at half time and, sorry Arsenal fans, Samir Nasri has come on.

I'm sorry, it just doesn't look quite right

    9/13/2014 12:47:16 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

45 min: City get the second half going. Nasri takes his place on the left, expect a few jeers for his first touch. Arsenal have to play better against the top side if they are to mount a serious title challenge and it all starts in this second half.
    9/13/2014 12:48:34 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

47 min: Danny Welbeck gets the second half's first chance, as the new £16mill man gets in down the left. It's just too tight for him to get a proper shot off and Hart smoothers. Arsenal starting quick again though, just as they did in the first half.

    9/13/2014 12:51:40 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

49 min: City get their third yellow of the afternoon and Fernandinho goes into the book, the away team won't want to lose anyone against this pacey Arsenal outfit.

    9/13/2014 12:54:05 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

52 min: Samir Nasri's first few touches do bring a good few choice words from the home faithful but I don't think that'll bother the Frenchman all that much. Fernandinho is putting in some shift today, clearly trying to prove a point to his boss that he is the main man in holding midfield, doing the job so far, that's for sure.
    9/13/2014 12:57:56 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

56 min: All in all, a pretty quiet start to this second half, it's yet to come up to boil and that's just how City will want it. Arsenal need something and they do have a lot on the bench this afternoon. Podolski, the Ox and Cazorla will be twitching in the dug out.
    9/13/2014 1:00:51 PM
  • Arsenal 0 Manchester City 1

59 min: Big cracks in the Arsenal back four as *cough* Gael Clichy *cough* gets in behind and nearly chips the ball over Szczesny and into the back of the net. He is yet to score for City since moving from the Gunners and that was so close to being it.
    9/13/2014 1:03:39 PM
  • GOAL!!! Arsenal 1 Manchester City 1 - Jack Wilshere!

63 min: Jacky boy!! What a special goal that is and right out of the Wenger handbook. Everyone gets involved before sending Wilshere through. The Englishman, under so much secrutiny recently, takes his chance superbly well to chip high into the net from the tight angle. Great goal, just what Arsenal needed and just what Jack needed too! Game on now!

    9/13/2014 1:06:06 PM
  • Chelsea v Swansea Team News

Chelsea: Courtois, Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Terry, Cahill, Oscar, Matic, Fabregas, Hazard, Schurrle, Costa

Swansea: Fabianski, Taylor, Williams, Rangel, Amat, Routledge, Shelvey, Sigurdsson, Ki, Dyer, Gomis

    9/13/2014 1:10:37 PM
  • Arsenal 1 Machester City 1

68 min: Edin Dzeko has come on for goalscorer Sergio Aguero but it looks just tactically and not another injury for City's main man. We're into the final 20 minutes or so, what way is this one going? No real chance since Wilshere's majestic goal.
    9/13/2014 1:12:21 PM
  • Crystal Palace v Burnley Team News

Palace: Speroni, Mariappa, Dann, Delaney, Ward, Zaha, Puncheon, Jedinak, McArthur, Gayle, Campbell

Burnley: Heaton, Shackell, Mee, Trippier, Duff, Jones, Boyd, Arfield, Marney, Ings, Jutkiewicz
    9/13/2014 1:15:33 PM
  • GOAL!!! Arsenal 2 Manchester City 1 - Alexis Sanchez!

73 min: What a goal, seriously what a goal that is and Arsenal have turned it right around! Alexis Sanchez hasn't done all that much so far today but he has come up with the goods here. The former Barcelona man springs up and produces a finish that will rival any you'll see this season! Arsenal lead and what a response from them this half!

    9/13/2014 1:16:43 PM
  • Southampton v Newcastle Team News

Saints: Forster, Alderweireld, Clyne, Fonte, Bertrand, Davis, Cork, Schneiderlin, Tadic, Pelle, Long

Newcastle: Krul, Janmaat, Haidara, Coloccini, Williamson, Gouffran, Sissoko, Colback, Cabella, Anite, Riviere
    9/13/2014 1:22:22 PM
  • Arsenal 2 Manchester City 1

79 min: Real worry for Mathieu Debuchy here after the defender landed in a real awkward manner, poor guy, looked nasty. Callum Chambers is on for him. That does mean we're likely to have a sizeable load of added time...
    9/13/2014 1:23:53 PM
  • Stoke v Leicester Team News

Stoke: Begovic, Pieters, Shawcross, Wilson, Bardsley, Whelan, Walters, Moses, Bojan, N'Zonzi, Crouch

Leicester: Hamer, Moore, Morgan, de Laet, Konchesky, Mahrez, Hammond, Schlupp, King, Ulloa, Nugent
    9/13/2014 1:25:55 PM
  • GOAL!!! Arsenal 2 Manchester City 2 - Martin Demichelis!

83 min: Another man who has come in for more than his fair share of criticism comes up with the equaliser. Martin Demichelis slams home a bullet header from Kolarov's perfect cross. What's going to happen in this one now? Anyone's guess!

    9/13/2014 1:26:30 PM
  • Sunderland v Tottenham Team News

Sunderland: Mannone, van Aanholt, Brown, O'Shea, Vergini, Larsson, Rodwell, Cattermole, Wickham, Johnson, Alvarez

Spurs: Lloris, Dier, Kaboul, Rose, Chiriches, Capoue, Dembele, Chadli, Lamela, Eriksen, Adebayor

    9/13/2014 1:32:33 PM
  • HIT THE POST! Arsenal 2 Manchester City 2

88 min: Woooo, so close to the winner and City nearly turn it right back around. Aleksandar Kolarov, so involved with City's second, comes a whisker away from giving his side all three points. Out of nothing, he lashes an effort at goal but it flicks onto the post.
    9/13/2014 1:34:48 PM
  • Arsenal 2 Manchester City 2

90+1 min: Plenty of injury time for us to find a winning goal inside the Emirates, six in total!
    9/13/2014 1:35:49 PM
  • Arsenal 2 Machester City 2

90+4 min: There was the chance for City to win the game and Edin Dzeko goes so close but the Bosnian is denied by a fine save from Szczesny.
